I'm a little upset....My FH Parents want to give us their China *** updated Thanks

as a wedding gift. ( Money is very tight for them) I understand they want to give us something....but i was hoping that we would pick out our China pattern instead of getting their old china.

P.S. i have never seen that pattern they live on the West Coast

Don't be upset.....my mom gave me my grandmothers china( she passed away in April) & FH parents made a comment about giving us a set a dishes FFIL got in Korea but we still registered for our own china. If you have a a pattern you like don't worry about who is giving you what....register for your own set of china.

I wouldn't be upset, its nice that they want to hand down something like their china to you. I wouldn't think of it as them cutting costs more like passing on something really nice and special.

don't be upset. i actually asked my mom if she would give us her china. it's not what i would have picked for myself, but it is very pretty. there are other things i would rather get than china and honestly, it's not like i'm always having formal dinner parties where the way it looks is so important.

plus, to me it will always be significant b/c it belonged to my parents.

you can always just register for china that can be dressed up or down so that you can have an option. but don't be upset, it was very nice of her to offer (unless, of course, they are hideous - jk).

I agree... you can still register for your own china... consider the set your FIL's give you an heirloom. I know I'll be getting from my aunt the Irish china that she recieved for her wedding but I'll still be registering for china.

I should add....That i have three sets of China already. 1 from my Great Grandmother and 1 from my Grandmother and I now have gotten my mothers since she has passed away.

But if you want register for your own china too. we have a fall theme, and I was given a flute set as an engagement present...but I wanted the fall ones in my album. So we are using both

Besides, maybe you can start passing that china set down

WOW.... YOU HAVE 4 GENERATIONS OF LOVE.... FAMILY GATHERINGS GREAT MEALS AND STORIES ..... I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM WANTING NEW.... OF SOMETHING DIFFERENT.... BUT I THINK THAT THIS IS SOMETHING SO GRAND THAT YOU CAN PASS ON TO YOUR FUTURE FAMILY ........

I can see your frustration...you don't want to end up with this mystery china as your 'wedding' china. Just register for something else and see if you get both. They are trying to pass something down and save $, but I can see how you want something that is all your own (you and FH).

don't be upset .. my future father in law gave us his, my future mother in law passed 2 years ago. I think its an honor to have it and to be able to pass it down to my kids some day.

My FFIL wants us to take his parents set but I want my own, I mean my FH already gave me his grandmothers e-ring! I know how you feel!!!!!!!!! Just smile and put it away until they come over

I don't think that is such a bad thing either. My mom told me that my grandmother left me her china for when I get married. It is very pretty - it's white with a gold trim and a pink flower on it. In addition, FH's grandparents left him a set of china as well - which matches my set almost EXACTLY. So it's not what I would pick out - but I am so grateful to have two cherished heirlooms that I can hopefully pass on as well.
