Do Fathers Need To Wear A Tux?

Hi, do fathers really to wear a tux on the wedding day? Anyone know?

our fathers are not wearing tuxes, but then again neither is the groom or the groomsmen. we are having a less formal sunday afternoon wedding. all the boys will be in very nice tan summer suits. although, my dad is very upset. apparently he really wanted to wear his white dinner jacket!

It depends on the formallity of your wedding. If the groom and GM are wearing tuxes then yes, the fathers should be in tuxes too.

However, this is YOUR wedding so if everybody is comfortable with them not being in tuxes then that's fine too.

ETS: My dad didn't match the GM. DH wore a black vest, GM wore silver vests, and my dad wore a charcoal vest.

I would say so... if your men in the bridal party are in a tux, the dads should be too... specifically the father of the bride if he's walkingyou down the aisle!


our dads are not getting the same vest color as the groomsmen, most don't. they get a regular black tux with black cumberbund and bow tie.

fathers do not need to match the bridal party

since they are walking in they should technically be wearing tuxes - my dad will be wearing a tux since he is giving me away

we gave FFIL the choice not to wear one but he is going to since my dad is

I think it is up to you guys...my brother is getting married this Oct and my dad as well as the bride's dad are wearing suits.

our Dads ar wearing them! We are having Alex (my fi) in a platnuim color....groomsmen in something a lil darker and then dads either in the same color or black vests.
i was told that dads should be in a light or colorful shade bc it will draw the eye too him as he walks down the asile w. the bride. Not so sure if i believe ppl wont look at me!!! lol But i figure id go along w/ it incase

My dad is wearing a tux but FH's dad is not. My dad is wearing a tux since he is walking me down the aisle and she said he's worn one on all the important event in his life....Awe...

He is however NOT wearing the same color vest has the groomsmen. I think the dads need to standout from the GMs

but I think it's up to you.

My sister's FIL wore a suit and he looked a little ridiculous IMO since all the guys, grandfather's and my dad were in tuxes

Only DH and BM wore a tux. FIL and step-dad wore a brand new suit we bought them.

I think it is really a matter of if you want them to or not. Also, how formal is your wedding?

Me I wouldn't mind if my dad came in full biker duds. (I know he would be most comfortable in that!)

my dad is wearing a tux but not the shiny shoes. -his tux is a different style then the groom and groomsmen... he always likes to be different -go figure

our dads and step-fathers wore tuxes.......different color vests though. I thought it looked great

our fathers are....only because i don't trust them to actually look nice on their own
