Anyone who has an email with their last name at work....UPDATED ON BOTTOM!

If I change my name for the payroll at work (I work at North Shore-LIJ) am I going to have to change my email to, if it has my last name?

If so, is there any way you can refuse? EVERY one contacts me via email, and I will lose a lot of contacts if my email changes....

If your company is like mine, the payroll name change and your email will not affect each other. My job uses our initials so I will keep mine as is even though I will be using my married name at work. I just think it will be less confusing for my clients that way. It should be up to you whether or not you want to change the email because I can't imagine they are going to make you use your married name.

At my company they usually create another email with the brides new last name but also leave active her email address with her maiden name so that both work and deliver email to the same inbox. Maybe if they create a new email with your married name you can ask them to leave active your old email addy with your maiden name so anyone who has your 'old' email address can still email you without a problem? HTH

They automatically change our email addresses at work and the old one isn't valid anymore, it doesn't even forward to the new one!

My HR would do it automatically. You could check and ask them not to. My former boss did.

The way mine is set up, my maiden still works and just gets into my email account. I guess it is almost like a pop server where you can recieve all your email into one account.

Your IT person can either have your mail forward to your new Email address with your new name.....or i guess you can leave it.


We let the person choose which name they want at my company.

I do all the e-mail/computer maintenance at my company. You can create a new mailbox and then at the server level tell it to forward all mail that was going to 'oldname' to the 'new name'. As for your contacts, if you use MSFT outlook, I can tell you how ot move that - it's just one file, you can cut and paste it so even if you get a new computer it will move them all

Can't you do an out of office assistant before you actually get the new e-mail address?

Put one on that says 'effective 'the date' my new e-mail address will be.......'

This way anyone who sends you an e-mail will receive the out of office reply (even though you are not out of office). I would think that this way you have a better chance of people getting your new e-mail and changing it!

I didn't change my email at work - It was two totally separate contact people (HR for the payroll and IT people for the email) I just never bothered to contact the IT people

At my job- e-mails will still get through b/c our first name never changes and automatically gives ur last name.

Emails sent to your old email address will most likely be forwarded to your new one for a while. Maybe also add to your signature that your email address has changed, send out a mass email, etc.

I don't think mines going to change until the IT dept comes and manually does it. Our email is only internal though, so it doesn't makes to to much difference.

i'm sure you can keep it...for professional purposes. i think DH's secretary still has her maiden name on her email address at work.

my email just got switched at work. i sent out an email to all of my contacts alerting them to my name change and any contact info that switched (in this case, my email address was the only difference.)
