June 30th,2007-Jericho Terrace-Date for sale

Hello,

I have canceled my wedding contract with the Jericho Terrace for 6/30/07 and am in search for a new hall.

I was booked in the Penthouse Room with a minimum of 200 guests for 8pm.

Well i had a friend who recently posted my Jericho Terrace cancellation for me because i was too upset to do it myself but i need to get moving and let the word out if i ever want to get my money back! Your prob. referring to the post by bride2beeee.

oh there's another girl in Nov. 2007 who has cancelled hers and they are making her pay for the whole wedding unless she rebooks it!

I know but they are just trying to scare her trust me..they told me the same thing and i told them they can try as hard as they can...then the GM told me they would never try to make me pay for the whole wedding.

Its their technique to scare you into not cancelling.

hey guys...just a little advice from a similar experience. A relative of mine was booked at a hall and had to cancel a few months in advance, and they tried to do the same 'scare tactics'.

Luckily, we all knew the way the law worked and it's the following:

They CAN NOT make you pay for anything that you did not receive. If they do not rebook they do have the right to keep a portion of your deposit (depending on the county, they can keep a certain amount of what you have paid) But at the very most, they are only entitled to the deposit up until that date. I hope this helps and eases your mind a little.

I'll keep my ears open if I hear of anyone wanting that date. June is super popular, you shouldn't have a problem

Thanks for the advivce! I will def. keep fighting for my money.

I cancelled my contract with them because my BM was EXTREMELY dishonest with us.

just so you guys know, i canelled at another hall, cause my mother was almost dying of cancer 9thankfully shell be healthy as a horse at my wedding in 9 days)..they took my 6400, and sued me for 17 thousand dollars!!
they dont really just 'scare you'...its not a law in nassau to return the money with 6 months notice, and theres no way to prove if they didnt try to book..i had to hire attorneys and everything, it got ugly!!
and by the way...the banquet manager told me the same thing...'dont worry, theyd never sue you' YEA RIGHT

also..i even called every news station in new york..and the law is that they couldnt sue me for tax and gratuity on a service never provided, but they CAN sue me for the price per person..it was alot of aggravation

I cant believe that happened to you! Im so happy your mother is okay now but i cant believe they went after you like that!? I really wish Nassau county would adapt the same law Suffolk county has. Its unfair and ridiculous for them to go after people like that. What happened after the lawsuit? I hope they lost!

You said that you cancelled because your BM (banquet manager?????????) was dishonest with you. I would think that if the BM told you something that you relied on in booking and was dishonest about a material fact, you maybe able to get out of the contract entirely. I would contact an attorney as well as looking for someone else to book out the date. Maybe an attorney's letter would be enough to get them to back off and refund your deposit.

Yes he was dishonest with me and so far in order to get my money back i have done these things:

Written a letter of complaint to the BBB
Written a letter of complaint to the attorney general
And a letter to New York State consumer affairs

They have contacted them by mail and basically they try to work out a settlement between me and them.
If they dont respond witihin a few weeks im going to take your advice and have an attorney look into this matter...even though i have enough stress as it is.

Okay it sounds like you've done all the right things thus far and hopefully you don't need to hire an attorney. Let us know if it works out for you because this issue seems to come up all the time and it would be nice to hear that someone was able to beat some sense into these halls.
