Oh My! I can post on here now :) Help w/name change

Hi ya'll! I'm 21 days married and so happy! I am going to go get my name changed in a few weeks, and want to know what I should do first. SS needs an original copy of your marriage certificate, then they mail it back to you?

DMV needs the original, but they give it back to you right away after they make a copy?

Is this all correct, and would I assume going to DMV first is correct? I am also going to fill out all the forms before I go. Any other tips/advice greatly appreciated.

What SS place did you guys go to?

Im a Suffolk County East End Girl so I went to DMV last Thursday. The Riverhead branch is open until 6pm. I walked in at 4:30 and had my new temporary in 15 minutes. By the way they take a new pic. They gave me back my original so I had some sort of ID until my new one comes in. Make sure you bring your original Marraige Certificate.

I went to the SS office today and same thing. I went to the Patchogue office with the Marraige Cert. and my Drivers license and my SS card. They took my card to destroy it but gave me a reciept with proof of my new name. The card should be to me within 10 days.

i went to the ss office in melville -- in and out in 10 minutes and they mail a new card. they didnt take my marriage cert - just referred to it.

i got lucky at dmv too -- that took about 2 weeks to come in though - all i brought was my old license and marriage cert. They took a new pic cuz girlz we got a new signature!

Congrats!

I went to SS first....they don't keep the original, they just need to see it. My advice....go early before it gets too crowded. I went to the one in Mineola.

DMV also needs to see the original. More advice....bring your registration and title and change it all at once. It is so much easier that way.
