Ideas for welcome baskets?
I'm looking for ideas for hotel welcome baskets for our out of town guests. In particular, I'm trying to think of things that somehow represent Long Island. Any ideas? Oh yeah, any ideas for a cheap 'basket' would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Ideas for welcome baskets?
For cheap 'baskets' I would use gift bags from party city and decorate with stamps, stencils or ribbon. It will be difficult for people travelling with limited luggage space to bring it home.As for contents? What about Long Island wine, I love NY something (t-shirt, key chain). That's it - I drew a blank after that

I just went to a wedding recently - she used a bag that you would put a gift in...you know so you don't have to wrap it?she put in lots of snacks, mints, water, deoderant, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion, soap, q-tips...etc...

I like the long island wine being part of the basket for sure. I've heard that Pindar gives a discount the more bottles you buy. Also, some local wine stores have Pindar wine, so you wouldn't nec. have to go to port jeff or to the vineyard. I am putting the wine, a candle and matches, some cheapy wine glasses, snacks, water, and headache stuff for the morning after.

Thanks girls. I love the LI wine idea since we're taking our guests on a winery tour the day before the wedding. I was thinking of preparing a little gift bag for everyone joining our winery tour...corkscrew, wine glasses, etc., but maybe I'll do a bottle of wine and a corkscrew for the hotel baskets and do something else for the tour.

Re: Ideas for welcome baskets?
We did bottles of Pindar Autumn Gold -- our wedding was 9/15/01. We hadn't thought about getting cork screws until the week of the wedding (9/11) we knew everyone was stressed and would probably really appreciate being able to enjoy the wine when they got to their hotels so we got some from the liquor store. We used the liquor store on 347 in E. Setauket/Pt. Jeff. I forget the name, next to RonJo's Magic Shop. We were able to get a good price by ordering two cases. We put in some snacks (bought at BJs), bottle water, Long Island Guide Magazines from the Visitors and Convention's bureau for free. I made I love NY magnets on the computer -- used the I LOVE NY logo and added our names and wedding date. I also put together a letter with some suggestions of things to do while guests were in town.
I got plain brown paper bags with handles from the craft store and got a rubber stamp of a wedding cake and just decorated it with that and our names, etc. Very inexpensive.
