job hunting in suffolk county

Hi Ladies,

I need some good resources to begin a job hunt in Suffolk County. I presently work in Manhattan but a home purchase might bring us to Suffolk and since I have a school age son already, I would prefer not to make the trek into Manhattan any longer

The Department of Labor is very helpful. One location, in Hauppauge is where I've gone. They have for FREE to job hunters : fax, copy, phone, internet, resume paper and envelopes, they mail them for you, and they have counselors that you can sit with if you need advice. They do not find jobs for you as a job agency would, but they are very helpful. They also have focus groups, which are about 3 hours long, they are sort of venting and chatting sessions/classes about the job market, resume writing, interview tips, etc etc., they are very informative, there are about 25-30 different focus groups - you must be a member to attend them, and sign up ahead of time with a counselor. They want you to 'visit' the DOL for a few weeks, before they assign you a counselor.
Here is the number below. Ask to sign up for an Orientation, where you officially get a card, and can attend as you would the library.
