Re: I know its a long shot
haha I am in a similiar boat....i have my masters in business grades 7-12. Any openings anyone knows of??Everyone has been telling me that not too many schools are hiring right now because they are waiting to see how much money they are getting and stuff. So in a couple months it should pick up.

You might want to put something about your job search in the title of the post so more people check it out

Re: I know its a long shot-teaching jobs
I would send your resume or fill out the applications on line to the districts you are interested in. YOu never know when someone has to leave for a various number of reasons. I would also try the city. Go to the schools you want to work in and make an appt. with the principal. Sometimes they get extra money mid year especially for special ed. Good Luck

This is going to be me soon...I'm graduating in May with a BSED in elementary education and then going for my Masters in Literacy. I'm so afraid I won't be able to find a job!Good luck everyone!

Have you considered looking in NYC schools? I understand it is easier to get a job there. (I'm not a teacher, but my mom is a professor in the ed department of a college on LI)

I am in a similar boat. Last May I got my masters in school counseling and still nothing, not even one interview. I even sent my resume out to over a hundred schools. It is so hard to break into the education field.

Usually it is better to look after March. That is when they tell the untenured teachers who is coming back or not!

Re: I know its a long shot-teaching jobs
Not to be discouraging - but it took me so long to find a job that is related to my background - I am a dually certified teacher with a specialization in autism... 3 years ago I sent out resumes responding to autism classes, and I got so few responses back - and my entore resume said 'autism' all over it - very discouraging - but I would up finding a super job - not in a school, but thru NS-LIJ as a consultant....

Don't know of any openings either, but I just wanted to tell you that you aren't alone...I just finished my Master's in Literacy and I went to Dowling. On their website: www.dowling.edu if you click 'current students' (top right of the page) then scroll down, they post education job openings every week. It's a public access page.
It's a good resource to save you some time and then you don't have to scour the Times and OLAS constantly... even though I usually do anyway!
