BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
ugh!! we chose the dresses a few months ago. so i had my plan set to go with my girls and order our dresses from Bridal Elegance today. Then i changed my mind at the last minute and today we all went to RK because on the phone i was told that they do price match AND measuring in store with the no frills plan. However we went only to find out that we had to measure ourselves and they hold no responsibility for what happens . Anyway so we left and although we measured and I can order the dresses whenever I want I feel majorly uncomfortable about it. I mean I measured myself twice and it was different and although my girls seemed fine with the idea - I don't feel so fine about it. SO now im thinking of regrouping and going out to Bridal Elegance so that we can get measured and order all in the same place - even though its slightly more $$. What do you girls think??

Re: BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
I ordered my girls dresses through the RK Bridal program, they were measured elsewhere and sent me their measurements.
All of my girls were OOT though and wouldn't be getting their alterations done in NY. You might be better off going with Phyllis if you are going to need a place for alterations as well.

They didnt measure you? They measured my mom we did the no frills program.
If your uncomfortable then by all means go where you think would be better..

Re: BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
I went to a local seamstress to get measured for my wedding dress (with Designer's size chart in tow) and then ordered the dress No Frills from RK. Did the same for the MOH dress.
I cannot express how happy I am w/ the RK no frills program...My dress was significantly cheaper, came EARLY, was in perfect condition, and the correct size and color~ same for the MOH dress~~~
I highly recommend the RK No Frills~~ It made my dress experience stress free

I was told that they do not measure you for no frills. We are going ot use RK because everyone is either in the city or out of town, so it is more convenient. Also, it is cheaper to go through RK because they price match by 5%

NO! they insisted part of the no frills is that they dont measure you - its all your responsibility. my girls are all from long island, and we would need alterations. so i think im gonna regroup and head out to bridal elegance even though its more money.
anyone else do rk no frills AND their own measurments?? how was it? where did you have the dresses shipped to? any help with the rk no frills would be appreciated - thanks!

Re: BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
i would just go with Phyllis at Bridal Elegance. she really does an amazing job with the gowns. i didn't get my wedding dress from her, but she's been altering it for me, and has done miracles with that dress. my BM/MOH got their dresses from her, and they are gorgeous, and she gave a fantastic price.

heres one gripe i have which made me initially change from bridal elegance to rk...a few months back i emailed them (gownfind/bridal elegance)for a quote on the bridesmaids gown and a price match. they gave it to me no problem. but my girls and i didnt want to order until now. so at first i couldnt find the email with the quote (it had said to bring it with me when i go to the store - since i told them i would be coming in). so i reemailed asking for the quote again with the same price match as the first time i asked. this time i received an email back stating that they couldnt discount the dress more than a certain percentage, and the quote they gave me at that point was like $20-$30 more than the original quote. so now im not sure if i walk in the door with the original quote if they would even honor it (i found the email). plus i need a different jr. bm dress and a different flower girl dress - all by the same designer - so im really not sure what to do cause it seems like theres NO chance they will price match the other two dresses as well... ugh - this is my first real annoyance of planning this wedding..but i know, it CAN be worse

I would go with gownfind, I think you'll make up the money when it comes to alterations.

Yes I think they will honor the original quote. Just go there with the email. Otherwise you can call tomorrow and tell Phylis that you requested a price quote a while ago for a certain dress and you are now interested in purchasing the dress. Don't mention the second quote they gave you. If they're not willing to honor the quote you got through email then order from RK and ask Phyllis what she charges for Bridesmaid alterations. You may be able to get the dress from RK and have Phyllis alter it.

Re: BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
What's "slightly" more $$? If it's $10 or $20, I'd go with Bridal Elegance. And what's RK Bridal's in-store price? I tried on my wedding gown at RK Bridal. Called them and found out the no-frills price was only $50 less than their in-store price, which surprised me. So I called around shops on LI that were authorized dealers, because that was important to me as I didn't have a lot of time for the gown to come in, and the Commack Wedding Center matched RK Bridal's in-store price. That way I wouldn't have to truck into the city to pick up my gown--I didn't want to get it shipped, would have cost me the shipping costs and getting it steamed again. So I went with them. For a few more dollars, I got help getting measured for my gown--and that was important as I needed to be measured for the hollow to hem--and no shipping. And I was able to try on several gowns from the same maker in various sizes so I knew better which size to order--without that, I would have ordered the larger size and had to pay for alterations down (and pay more for the "plus" size.) This way I know the smaller size actually does fit.
So, my advice is, if it's only a few more dollars, go with the service. Especially if hems are an issue. You might end up saving hemming costs for your bridesmaids, which might be more than the extra $$.

Re: BM Dresses: RK Bridal No Frills vs. Bridal Elegance/Gownfind
And did you check Netbride or Pearl's Place? Especially if you have OOT bridesmaids anyway? You could save them the sales tax.
As far as my bridesmaid dresses were concered--my MOH got a dress that wasn't a "bridesmaid" dress so that doesn't count. My bridesmaids are technically junior bridesmaids--they're young teens, my nieces. I chose dresses from Forever Yours junior bridesmaids, and it turns out they're inbetween sizes, so we ordered up, figuring they might grow anyway before the wedding. Since they're sisters, I wanted my brother and SiL to pay the least amount, so I looked around and found the cheapest deal at Perfect Bridal:
http://www.perfectbridal.com/
Netbride didn't carry the dresses, or I might have gone with them. With this, there was no sales tax, and a rock-bottom price. But, as I said, I wasn't going crazy about the sizing anyway, so it doesn't matter if the dresses don't fit perfectly, I know they're going to need alterations, but I think a family member (inlaw, not my side) is going to do them for free. I read mostly good reviews of Perfect Bridal on the Knot, so I'm hoping it all works out!

What's "slightly" more $$? If it's $10 or $20, I'd go with Bridal Elegance. And what's RK Bridal's in-store price? .
bridal elegance in nominally more than RK no frills- like something between $10-$30 depending on the dress. however RK's in store price was $70 per dress more than the quotes i have! for a bridal gown i feel like $50-$70 isnt a lot - but for a bridesmaids gown thats like 1/2 to 1/3 of the total cost of the dress so i wouldnt do that to my girls after telling them they are only $145 and then being like OH SORRY its $202 (even if its my fault for telling them before securing the price).
but i think thanks to alll of you that im going to bridal elegance with the old quote and not mentioning the new one. some of my girls are getting thier measurements done at a tailor or by a pro and the rest will come out and get measured there. it just makes me feel more comfortable. and she offers $55 cap alterations for them. thanks gals!
