Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

Any Hawaii honeymooner's?

What did you guys pack? I'm going for 2 weeks and can't even imagine how much clothes I'm going to need to bring.

I'm in the middle of moving and figured I could make my life easier if I start packing some things.

I'm going to post on the Newlywed board too!

Thanks!

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

We were engaged there in February and are going back for the honeymoon.
I packed mostly shorts,T shirts, bathing suits and cover up. It's mostly casual.
For going out for dinner I packed some light dresses and skirts. Don't bring anything too formal, you won't need it. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes for the flight. My feet got so swolen from sitting so long they looked like they belonged to Miss Piggy!! Drink lots of water and move around the cabin to avoid this problem!

Where are you staying? Can't wait to go!

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

I've actually started to pack for our Hawaii honeymoon. We leave 9/22! I have a friend who travels there every year, and I've been going by their suggestions. Everything is casual. I'm sure capris would be find. I've even heard of people going to dinner in a sarong (sp?). They don't even bring pants, only shorts and some sun dresses. They also said that you'll probably want to shop, so don't overpack. I'm also going to bring an empty duffle to accommodate all my purchases
Other little tips I've picked up:

-put a photo copy of your license in your suitcase, in case you lose your original.
-check with you insurance company to find out if you have rental car coverage. If you do you can avoid the $12 fee for insurance.
-Have your pictures developed there. They're suppose to be better at developing the colors of Hawaii....I guess that makes sense.

That's all I can think of right now. I will finish my packing this weekend. I'm headed to LI 9/15. I'll post if I think of anything along the way....

Jen

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

I was told to pack a pair of jeans if you plan on doing horseback riding - as well as a sweater/sweatshirt since it can get cold as you go up the mountains.

I'm so excited to go! I heard it's paradise

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

that's a good idea about developing film - simply for the fact that with the heightened security at the airports, you're no longer allowed to hand your camera or film to the guard - you need to send it through the xray machine, which can damage your film.

I also heard it gets very cold up on the top of the volcano, and to wear a jacket and pants.

I don't have too many sundresses, but hopefully I'll be able to stock up while I'm there

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

If you are planning to do the sunrise downhill bike ride from Haliakala you will need more than a pair of jeans! It's about 35 degrees before the sun comes up!!
It's awesome!
Capri pants are fine! What Island are you going to, I can make suggestions if you want.
Everyone have a great time! I'll meet you there October 2nd!

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

I am going to Oahu, Kaui and Maui.

I don't think I'll do the bikeride (probably break my neck!) but we'll probably go up there in the jeep.

I definitely want to do the horseback riding and possibly ride quads (friend did that and said it was great)

I'm fine with packing the basics (t's, shorts, sundresses) it's the extra stuff like jeans, jackets, sweaters...I don't know how much to bring!!

I guess I can always buy stuff

Re: Hawaii Honeymoon - Packing?

One pair of jeans, one jacket or sweater should be enough.
I did the downhill ride it's no problem. I am not active at all and I had the greatest time. It's downhill the whole time and you are followed by van so you can stop at any time.
