Thinking of personalized pens also as an extra favor. What do you think of that idea? Its something everyone can use.

I think it would take away from whatever the other favor is. It seems cheap/cheesy to me. (sorry, JMO).

While everyone can use this, it may not be the most creative favor - it depends on what else you're giving though....

I'm not a fan of the pen idea...I think it is because so many businesses use them as a key promotional item and i think it is not elegant at a wedding....just my opinion!

I was thinking that the pens could be set up on the tables also while people filled out the guest cards. Just an idea I was tossing around.

Ive heard of doing sort of a comical pen idea like:
"I stole this pen from X & X's wedding'. I think its cute if you put them out near the guestbook and such.

If you were to wrap them up, I would think its a little on the cheap side.

I was going to put it on the table for them to take one when signing the guest cards. We already ordered the chocalate favors. I thought it was a cute little extra something but I guess nobody else liked it. I wasn't going to wrap it. The chocalates will be wrapped.

i think it's a really cute idea! ... especially what sonicstef said. and also, i agree they should be by the guest book, not on the tables. i say go for it!

I agree....if the guest cards are spread out across or around a table and there are pens every where it would be great so that people can fill them out and leave. I think what tripped everyone up is that you called them favors. I don't think you mean to give them as favors...they are just a little something extra that is personalized....like match books...maybe I am wrong but I think you should go for it! Personally, I am adding personal touches all over the place.

Yes, thats what I mean but when I got the negative response I was so surprised. I thought people would get a kick out of it.

i fully agree that the word 'favors' is what threw some people off! it's totally a great idea (and now i am considering it for my wedding)!

p.s. what are "guest cards"?

Thanks Michele. Instead of having a guestbook that people sign in on, they will have little cards where they can write their well wishes on.They can place it in a bowl. I thought the pen would be a nice little something extra instead of matches. I guess I shouldn't have called it a favor but a little something extra.

I feel a lot better about it now that you've explained it. I really didn't like the favor idea, but to have them around the guest cards is cute.

Just be careful that the pen design isn't cheesy - keep it simple. I like the "stolen pen" idea.

Perhaps you could have your hall replenish the supply so there aren't 150 pens at once on the table.

I agree...when I first read it...I thought the pen would be on the table... and I thought it might be a little cheesy...but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of having them by the guest book...maybe get enough for each guest (if you have leftovers they would be great keepsakes)...and put them in a nice jar or vase...

I like the idea too! We were thinking of doing lighters instead of matches since we have a cigar/brandy room for after dinner...I have been looking into getting them personalized and now I love this idea too. If you find any great pens please feel free to share them with me!
