Another curly hair issue: need a stylist!!!

My wedding is still a long way away (August 2003) but I am frantically trying to find someone to style my hair (and my bridesmaids, but they're not the problem). I have very long, very CURLY, and very fine hair. I want to have it blown out straight so that I can wear it down on my wedding day (if the weather permits, since my ceremony and cocktail hour are outdoors). Many of the wedding stylists I have researched will only style hair that is already dry. This is impossible in my case, since I need a blow out! If it happens to be really hot out on my wedding day, I might wear it in an updo, but I don't want to because I wear it pulled back so often and I want to look special for my wedding. I'm afraid wearing it up won't make me look any different than an ordinary day. I'm also wearing a veil with the comb attachment, rather than a headband. Can anyone help me find a stylist who specializes in very curly hair? Does anyone have any advice for me? Thank you!

What stylist is telling you that they won't blow your hair out first? Thats crazy!

I can give you the name/number of the woman Im using if you like. I don't think she specializes in curly hair but Im sure she will try to do whatever you want. Her prices are reasonable ($25 for the trial, $100 for the day).

Whoever is not blow drying your hair is not a good hair dresser. I have very long, fine and super curly hair and I get a blow out form a portguese salon in Westbury. If you need the info just let me know. I don't know if it's convenient for you being all the way at the Watermill though....

I used the Maximus Salon & Spa In Westbury - I'm quite sure they will do whatever you want. You go to the salon for the trial, but the stylist will come to you on your wedding day. If you have several people, the stylist will bring an assistant. You still have plenty of time, so try a couple of trials

My hair is also curly and I left it in curls for my wedding day. I had most of my hair up with curls coming down my back. My hair looked great and I received compliments from everyone. I used Maximus in Westbury also and they did an amazing job; they also did exactly what I wanted for my hair.

Re: Another curly hair issue: need a stylist!!!

I have extremely curly hair and my stylist does a beautiful job of blowing it out or doing it curly. She herself has curly hair, so she knows how to work with it. My sister, who has very curly hair as well, recommended her to me over a year ago and I've been going there ever since!

Her name is Christine and she works at:
Shakiba Spa & Salon
6310 Northern Blvd
East Norwich, NY
516-624-8222

She's very sweet & laid-back!!! (I hate stuffy stylists. )

You might want to try Christopher Jon Salon and Day Spa in Sayville. Ask for Amy. She specializes in curly hair. My sister-in-law goes to her and has never had a complaint.
I also have been going there for years. They are very good, in my opinion.
