Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes (now with pics)

I need your help and honest opinions ladies. Our wedding colors are turquoise, silver and ivory. FH is supposed to wear an ivory suit and wants to wear a turquoise vest/tie (like the GM). Well at the tuxedo shop yesterday the sales rep told him that he really should not wear such a bright color vest/tie like turquoise unless I have turquoise in my dress (which I don't it is all ivory) because it will take away from my dress and will come across as such in all of our pictures. He suggested the groom wear all ivory to compliment me FH is very saddened by this because he feels as though he is going to look very blah and bland. I need your opinions ladies . . . what should we do? Do you agree with what the sales rep said or do you think that it really isn't going to make much of a difference?

ETA: Pics in my album

I agree with the sales rep. My guys are wearing red vests while FH will wear a silver one.

I agree with the sales rep, but remember it's your wedding. If you want the turquois then get it. What matters to you is what' s important.

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes

It's your wedding but it's also his. If he didn't care then I would say all ivory but it obviously bothers him. I would let him wear what he wants. Trust me...everyone will be looking at you anyway!!!
The beautiful bride always takes precedence over the groom! LOL!

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes

If he wants to wear a turquoise vest, then let him.. its his wedding too. I think it will look nice!

ETA: I was also thinking, what if he wears the ivory vest with the turquoise tie? Then he's got that splash of color but won't be as overwhelming as the turquoise vest/tie combo.

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes

I agree with the sales rep, too, but it's your wedding. Your FH should wear what he wants. I think, however, it would be nice for him to have something different from the GM.

All of our GMs and my FH will be wearing charcoal grey vests / ties. My FH will have a different bout.

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes

FH needs to stand out, jsut as you stand out from your BM.
See how the silver vest/tie or perhaps a darker shade of ivory look with the ivory tux
Let the GM wear the turquoise.

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes

I dont think it will take away from you at all. I think if FH wants the turquise , then you should get it, but you also want to be careful not to look to promish.

That is what the sales rep told us yesterday, I wanted sage incorporated into the tux's. We could have done it, but his opinopn was not to look to promish - so we went with black and white. I totally agreed with him once I thought about it

this could just be a clueless guy thought, but what about the GMs all wearing ivory vests, and FH wearing the turquoise?

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes (now with pics)

I agree with others, he should wear what he wants.....

However, if you didn't tell me the story, and just plopped the picture up there and said 'whacha think', honestly, I think it's too bright against the white. I presume the GM's are wearing black suits with the turquoise? I think the problem the sales associate is talking about really comes in with the white tux + the blue vest/tie.

I don't think the ivory vest is really better, since then he's ALL white..... hence the 'blah'. I think it's more dangerous than 'blah' becuase you can't even tell the jacket from the vest, from the shirt, from the tie, becuase it all blends together!

What about him being in a silver vest/tie, or switching his tux color to black? (or does he dislike either idea?)

What ever the end result, he has to LOVE it. It's his day!

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes (now with pics)

i absolutely agree with the sales rep
It definatly will be the focal point of all the pix..
Trust the guys at the tux store, theyve been doing this forever.

If your FH rrrrreally wants some turquoise in there- get him a bright colorful boutonier to pin to the jacket. and put ivory ones on the other guys.

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes (now with pics)

I do think the sales rep is right. Our colors are turquoise, white and black with pink accents and I wouldn't put FH in turquoise because it would be so bright it would probably be the first thing noticed in pictures. So FH will be wearing all black with a white tie... and his BM is wearing all black with a turquoise tie.

I agree with the sales rep. Your eye will go straight to his vest in pics of the two of you. You want to be the focal point!

Re: Need HELP: Groom Tux Woes (now with pics)

I'm going to be totally blunt here and just say that I think that's incredibly dumb.

First off, since when is the wedding supposed to be only about the bride? Last I checked, the groom was just as crucial for the whole MARRIAGE thing. Why does the attention need to be all on the bride and not on the groom?

Second, the bride's dress pretty much always draws attention, as it's entirely white, and, you know, a bridal gown.

Third, this is a wedding, not a big photo shoot. Wear what makes you and him happy. You choose your dress to reflect your personality and what you envision for your wedding - why shouldn't the groom have the same choice?

Sorry if I sound snarky, but I've just been planning my wedding a long time, and all of the opinions and 'you shoulds' and 'you can't do thats' are just starting to really annoy the h#ll out of me. Do what makes THE TWO OF YOU happy, forget the rest.
