random question for you girls

so i was having a conversation with one of my BMs & we were talking about how back in the day when women got married, the white wedding dress symbolized virginity. then we were wondering if anyone now a days actually dont wear a white dress because they are not virgins..... does anyone know of anyone who has done this?? or is anyone doing this themselves??? totally random thought i know, but we were just curious

i for one am still wearing a white dress even tho im not a virgin anymore - i never actually thought of not wearing a white dress before until we had this conversation lol

Re: random question for you girls

I know what you are saying but I haven't heard of anyone not wearing white because they weren't a virgin. I don't think girls really care about that anymore or don't really think of it as that tradition. They think of the tradition more as the girl is suppose to wear white on her wedding day.

I have acutally thought the same thing as you..lol I was like do girls actually not wear white because they aren't virgins. But I think if they don't wear white they just don't want to wear white.

Me too. Well I am wearing Daimond white which is between white and ivory and its because I am too pale to wear white. I will be washed out in picture probably. I look better in the diamond white.

Re: random question for you girls

Sarah Jessica Parker wore black, but I'm sure it wasn't because she wasn't a virgin...

Sarah Jessica Parker admits that she made her greatest fashion faux pas – not on the red carpet, but while walking down the aisle.

“I wore black on my wedding day, and I really regret that,” Parker says in the October issue of Marie Claire. “I was too embarrassed to get married in white, and both Matthew [Broderick, her husband of nine years] and I were reluctant to have people pay so much attention to us. Which is ridiculous, because that’s when you can relish the attention, when it’s natural. We treated it like it was a big party on a Monday night, and I regret it.”

Re: random question for you girls

i know in italy ( at least with my family) if you have a baby already you get married in ivory but not regular ivory - more of a 'taupe' i guess?

If i had a baby or 'proof' that i wasnt a virgin there is no way that my mom would have let me buy a white dress. . . but since there is no proof- white it is

ps - i have read so many posts that say that the white dress didnt originally symbolize purity blah blah blah but i dont feel like looking it up!

Re: random question for you girls

the real story is that:

back in the day women wore many different colors, not white.
One queen decided to wear white on the day of her wedding (nothing to do with virginity) and it became a huge fashion statement after that. That's all it was in the end, a fashion staement. Since then white was used, the virgin thing is made up

Re: random question for you girls

Before the 1800's, it was very uncommon to wear white to get married. Women wore different colored dresses. When Queen Victoria got married, she opted to wear white because of the purity of it. People wanted to copy her and picked up the tradition and it has been going on since then.

I think nowadays, people are more accepting of women not wearing a white gown to get married. But, I think it looks nice and elegant//

Re: random question for you girls

I'm wearing a white dress but it has nothing to do with virginity (believe me, lol). My skin tone just looks good in white, that's the only reason.
