HAND CANCELING - question..
when you asked the post office to hand cancel your invites, did you SEE them do it? the woman behind the counter just said, 'Ill take care of it,' in a nasty tone, and I'm worried she will just run them through the machine? Did you guys watch the canceling??

When I went they were very busy-it was tax season-the man said he would take care of it-but he was very nice! All of my invites arrived perfectly! I wouldn't worry too much.

We did it ourselves, they gave us the stamp.

Re: HAND CANCELING - question..
They told me that even if it's hand stamped it will still go trough the machine.

yes it will - but there's less of a chance the top of the envelope with the flap and stamps will get caught, because the machine stamps the bottom of the envelope.

I threw my invitations in a regualr mailbox and they all arrived perfectly. They were irregularly shaped and pretty thick. No worries!

yes, it does... it still has to go through all the sorting machines to get where its going... so hand cancelling really only saves it from going through the stamp machine, it doesn't save it from going through all the sorting machines to get where it needs to go.... so there is still a chance it could get damaged..

The postman took my invites from me and said he would take care of it. I got a little nervous too, but they all arrived perfectly and he did hand cancel them like he said he would. Don't worry, your invites will be fine.

Re: HAND CANCELING - question..
I went to two post offices. I went to my post office first in Moriches and the guy just took th ebox of invites out of my hand and said he would do it natily and I told him to give me my invites back! I actually had to scream at him like a lunatic until he did.I wen the next day very upset to the Southampton POst office and they were great. They gave me the stamp and I hand cancelled them my self. The postman said that if someone wants there invites hand cancelled they are allowed but they are not suppose to do it if there are more than 40 because it takes to much time. He also said that some post offices are dumb and have a tendency to still run the envelopes through the machine, which is totally unecessary. He said that mine would not be going though the machine, becuase they sort the hand cancelled invites. Everyone tells me they came fine.
I feel your pain, my forst experience left me with a bitter taste!!
ETA: THink positive and hopefully everything will be fine!!

That is what we are doing also. Half of them in my mail box. The other half in FH's mail box.

Re: HAND CANCELING - question..
When I dropped mine off, I had them in a box. She just took the box and put it aside. I was nervous too that she wasnt going to do it, but I purposely mailed out my parents invitations to my house ( I live at home) to see how they would come and they were hand canceled
