07er crashing - Tipping

My BM just told me that she generally gets $5 pp in additional tips on top of the 20% gratuity - is that crazy? That would be over $1000!

What did you tip?

We had about 95 people and tipped around 200-250? My BM was FLAWLESS but in no way earned more than $50/hr during my wedding.

thats insane. Sounds like she's fishing for extra tips to me. I wouldnt tip more than $2 or $3 per person.

ETA: Also, remember a tip is not mandatory. They can suggest whatever they'd like to you, however its up to your own discretion WHAT and IF you tip.

Its called a service charge because RHs are not allowed by state law to charge 'gratuity' -- so they call it a service fee or service charge. However, that service charge goes to the waitstaff. It doesnt include your bridal attendant, so if you choose, you can tip her. It also doesnt include the Maitre'd, so if you choose, you can tip him as well. But like I said -- its a TIP. Tips are always extra and EARNED. They should never tell you what they expect to be tipped. It would be like going to a bar and having the bartender say to you -- 'you know, you should really tip me $1 - $1.50 per drink' If you cant afford or dont feel they earned what they are telling you to tip them....DONT do it. Tip what YOU feel you can afford and what you feel they should get.

We tipped our BM $5 pp. She earned every penny.

I don't remember, I think we did $4 per person.
