Re: BOUNCED CHECKS?? HOW DO I HANDLE?

you don't need to tell them, the bank will notify them. I had one check bounce. When I got it back from the bank, I redeposited it a few weeks later and it cleared. I never mentioned it to the guest.

Fortunately, I didn't get charged any fees. But if it bouces again, you'd get hit twice. I would recommend redepositing it in a few weeks if you're not contacted by the guest directing otherwise.

edited to say - there have been a couple threads on this on the newlywed side. You'd be amazed how often it happens!

If you can I would go directly to the bank it is from and cash it against the account. Then you wouldn't have a fee if the money's not there!

Re: BOUNCED CHECKS?? HOW DO I HANDLE?

I had two checks bounce on us as well. In our case, the people never contacted us after about a month and a half after the check bounced (even though they were definitely notified by the bank). They were both from DH's family so I let him make the call on what he wanted to do. I really did want to re-deposit the checks and get slammed with yet another fee if they bounced. He decided he wanted to call the people and he did - I would never have been able to do this - Too uncomfortable. After he called, we re-deposited the checks after a week and they cleared.
