Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
Hi, I'm recently engaged and new to all this planning business. Can you please give me some feedback on reception halls in Long Island? I'd like to get an idea of which ones I should look at and their average costs? Thanks a bunch!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
We're looking to get married either in Fall-Winter '08 or Spring '09, not sure yet. I would like a hall with nice scenery to take pictures, doesn't necessarily need to be near water.

Everyone on here knows how much i promote my hall (like i should work for them... ) haha
BUT in your case, the swan club would really fit you.... I wanted to same thing... was having ceremony at the hall so i didnt wanna travel anywhere jus to take pics.. swan club has gorgeous gardens! and honestly, you really cannot beat their price.. seems like they give alot on their menu too! Very friendly, very nice to work with... Take a look at the pics in my album

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
Congratulations! We were married in the beginning of December at Danfords in Port Jeff. They do an incredible job there...tons of food (which is all wonderfully good) and the price is significantly lower than other places out there, particularly for a Saturday night in winter. The entire place was decorated for Christmas plus the Village of Pt Jeff is great if you have any out of town guests. Danfords is also a hotel so you get a free suite the night of your wedding, and your guests can stay there too and not worry about driving home after the party. They also have spaces for ceremonies on site too, if you like.
I have some pictures in my albums. Happy to answer any questions you have too!
Welcome to the boards!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
Congrats on our engagement and welcome to the board!I would recommend you get a magazine called Wedding Sites and Services. They are also online - if you search for it on yahoo it will come up. They list a broad range of halls on li and give you approximate prices, how many people the hall holds, etc. Great info and I found it very useful when I was narrowing down the places I wanted to look at - it just gives you basic info so you can see if a specific place has the things you think you want.
I would recommend the fox hollow to you. Like Mrs Mazz said - we are all a little biased to where we are getting married - but they have three rooms with different capacities and they have amazing grounds for pics. Plus, their prices are better than you would expect.
Some other tips: Prices anywhere will vary GREATLY (up to or sometimes more than $50 pp difference) depending on what time of year you choose and what time of day. Booking something quickly (such as for a spring 08 wedding), if at all possible (which for many is NOT possible), can give you great discounts since they want to fill the room. Fall is becoming more popular than summer, and Jan-Feb-Mar is usually the best time to get deep discounts.
Good luck and again, congrats!!!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
You should go get Locations mag or Weddings sites and services mag....they were a big help with me. Prices differ during the season so I cant really help you there. But if your looking for a christmas wedding with places to take pictures I would look into Flowerfields. I have some winter pictures in my album (it doesnt do the place any justice). Its decorated for christmas with trees and lights everywhere. Its breath taking!!!!

It depends on what you're looking for and when you'd like to get married. Our RH is at Lands End and we are also doing the ceremony there. It's beautiful. It has flowers everywhere and it is also on the water. Very classy place....good luck and congrats!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
Thank you all so much for the info! I'm gonna look into these rh's and the websites. Looks like I have my work cut out for me. At this point, I can only imagine what it's gonna be like getting a photographer, florist, dj, etc. Before I got engaged, I didn't realize how much work goes into the wedding prep!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
hello and welcome! the best thing to do is to pick up 'Locations Sites & Services' magazine...they sell them at most large mag. stands (convenient stores, borders, barnes&noble etc.)...it lists every venue in NY, what they offer, approx. price, photos, etc. it helped me narrow down my search a LOT. good luck! u can also try looking on here at all the reception locations, and even on the Brides Review boar...good luck! see u on the boards..and congrats again!

Re: Newly Engaged and New to the Board!
Thanks, girls! Unfortunately, I can't make it to Majestic Gardens this week, hopefully they'll have something else soon. I'm gonna look into the other halls and see if they have any bridal shows.Taryn, I saw your review but I couldn't see the pics. JT is def one of the places I want to check out. Was it super expensive there?
