Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

Ok I am posing this question to all of you ladies out there. Do any of you ever feel like your married one or both of your parents?

I will set up my argument by first posting tis quote/joke.

'Most women marry men just like thier fathers which explains why mothers cry at the wedding.'

I am asking because I have always thought that my DH was a lot like ym dad in the best ways possible; loyal, funny, easy going, faithful to his family and friends, hardworking, loving etc.

All things that I really love about him. But after we got married, he started doing all of the things that irk me about my dad; the cutting me off mid-sentence, the complete pig-headedness on any and all topics that he considers himself an 'expert on' despite it being something he knows NOTHING about and which I do, but I cannot possibly be right about, the weak financial budgeting abilites and most recently, his COMPLETE inability to just do what I ask him...

The long story short he bought me an expensive jewlery cleaner-the sonic one from brookstone, for Xmas. Its not working. The lid gets stuck and wont open unless I stick a knife in there. Its been doing it since he bought it for me. (But I didnt know that till this morning when we started to argue about it)

I said I wanted to bring it back to the store and exchange it for another one. Thats when he told me its been doing that since the getgo and he STILL threw out the box! What the HELLLLL?!

So Im like well it ahsnt been long and the receipts have to be somewhere. Lets just exchange it. Logica no? Apparently not because he wanted to just file the lever. My issue with that is its under warranty and if we fawk with the thing, tthe warranty won't cover it. I KNOW this fo r fact because unlike him I atcually READ the warranty.

But he's being pig-headed on it, refusing to listen to logical reason, Not the first time but certainly the most beligerent he has ever been. So I got mad and said GOD you're just like my father! (because thats something my dad would do, then break it and we'd be screwed.)

So DH got mad because he knew what I meant and he said why do I always have to insult him. I asked why he had to be pigheaded and he said its an inconvenience...mind you we life FIVE MINUTES from the mall and we were there right after Christman and he KNEW it stuck so WHY didn't we return it then! We wre there LAST NIGHT!!!!!!!

(quick Side note: HE is mad that I insulted him but HELLO does he not think its insulting he think beign compared to MY family is not insulting!!!! This isnt the first time he's said something disparaging about my fam.)

So we're not talking right now and I have no one to talk it out with so you guys are it...Gigured Id make a thread for other stories while I'm at it...

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

Good morning!! You two are like the Male Brain/Female Brain poster couple... he's exhibiting the classic 'I NEED TO FIX THIS' syndrome, which is sometimes very helpful, other times very irritating!!! Mine does it tooo!!

so a) you're right about the warranty, it will of course be invalidated if its fiddled with
b) on the other hand his filing strategy may just work; i have the same sonic cleaner and my lid sticks just a little bit too, its annoying but not fatal, the thing still cleans the bling really well!
c)maybe he's just grumpy cause you won't give him any in the am (per this mornings poll)

Best of luck SISTER!!!!

LOl well the warranty is void now cause he went behind my back and snuck in there and fiddled-still sticks. my finges arent wide enough to apply the rigth pressure. We tested it; he does it right every time Me I have to sue my thumb . Other fingers dont cut it lmao.

OYE...we're still snarling at one another. But we're making syllables too-we're evolving. Go us.

Dont sue your thumb, it'll cost you twice as much in lawyer fees as to replace the thing...
Well good, snarling is communicating, and they say THAT is the key to a happy marriage. Dont worry baby, i bet the more we use this the less the lid will stick!!!

I wish I married a man like my Daddy (since he is the absolute BEST- I couldn't ask for a better father and my Mom couldn't have asked for a better husband)

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

I always heard this, and always tried to find qualities like my dad, and I never saw them.

We've been together for 7 years, so at this point I pretty much know everything...

And only recently after the wedding, I've seen him become a little different, and I see somethings like my dad!

Its strange, cause DH has always lived in 'now' and never liked to talk about 3 years from now, or that kind of thing. But Since we are married now he, does which is so great! But he now has a few traits like him. None of which are bad ones, but I don't want him to be a lot like him. My dad was not so good, he cheated for years, and was a screamer and used to hit me a lot. But I think DH will be a better father.

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

Yes! I think DH is in a few ways like my dad, not many. My father has always worked with his hands-ALWAYS, he isnt an office type person to sit at a desk and work on a computer, thats not him. DH is the same way, he has always worked with his hands-now he is going to work in an office soon-which is weird but not bad b/c he looks damn sexy in his suit. They both are big beer drinkers-not really into liquor.

There is a few other similarities.

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

it's so funny...i've heard this so many times but DH is absolutely NOTHING like my father..thank god lol. my dad was father of the year for about 16years and then went off the deep end..i then came to know TONS of things i never new about him when i was younger.. so needless to say, i'm very happy he's no where near similiar to my father. oh & jen - i know how damn stubborn, thick & pigheaded our hubby's can be...but dont fight over a jewelry cleaner ..it's so not worth the aggrivation! i REFUSE to let DH argue with me over silly stuff no matter HOW frustrating he can be... just take it one day when he's not home & see if they'll fix/exchange it

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

Yes, I KNOW I married my dad and he married his mom. We are both VERY aware!!

But men are weird about exchanging/returning, DH will never return anything he doesn't like, ever!!! Then he ends up keeping everything he doesn't like, never wears it, just collects things in his closet! Drives me nuts!

Re: Does anyone ever feel they married ther parents.. (Weird I know but READ and find out!)

Well we had a crappy weekend. He was pigheaded all wekend even when I tried to be loving. He was just cranky because he is tired. His work schedule throws off his sleep schedule. On the weeknds he's up at 5am no matter how late he goes to bed. His internal clock is WAY off so he falls asleep on me all day and then we cant go anywhere cause I dont have my lisence and when i pratice with him in the car, he is snappish..just BAD situation all around.

He even let me HIT A CURB when I was driving today to 'teach me a lesson.' I wanted to pop him with the tire iron I swear-we'd been arguing because sinec he drives for a living, he's such a bad teacher-very impatient and likes to take cotnrol of the wheel at random times.

So he was a douche all weekend but this morning he seemed better so we'll see. He gets a week to act out..after that.. well for his sake he better stop lol.
