Well, that was like pulling teeth!!!!

For a few years, Debi sponsored a little girl in Guatemala, through World Vision. But for some reason, the agency pulled out of that area. Recently, I've been getting phone calls from Guatemala, from a gentleman, with a gal trying to translate. They asked for Debi. I do not speak Spanish, so it was difficult!! They called again tonight, and I finally gave them Debi's home phone, which has caller ID. Guess how I gave them Debi's number? I Googled Spanish numbers, and gave it to them, and finally we had some communication!! Back in 1971, I went with friends to Mexico, and did learn a few Spanish words, and numbers, so I knew how to pronounce the numbers. I'm fairly certain, the gentleman is the Father of Debi's little girl. Armed with the little girl's name, with my Spanish numbers in front of me, I asked how old she is now, and we UNDERSTOOD each other!!!!!!!!! I'm thrilled!!! She's six yrs. old now. We have friends who are missionaries in Guatemala, and I plan to e-mail them, as soon as Debi can give me some info. Perhaps they can connect. Debi would like to continue to help her little gal. Just thought I'd share. I don't think giving Debi's number will be a problem, because:
1. She has caller ID
2. She's never home
3. They'll be changing their number when they get married/move
Just in case the guy is someone Debi doesn't want to call, but I really think he's the Dad of the little girl. I can always hear children in the background. Mary

That is so nice. I think that is what life is all about. To give to others that really, really need it. You should be very, very proud.

Thank you, Susan!!! I was just ecstatic that I could communicate with these folks tonight! I asked Debi why World Vision left that part of Guatemala, and she said that is their policy once they feel people are self-sufficient. While Debi was a sponsor, she was limited to what World Vision said could be sent to the little girl. Now that they are no longer involved, Debi would like to send her little things, but not until she inquires/thinks about it.
Debi dropped by with several wedding gifts for me to wrap for her friend who married in Dec. They married in a mountain cabin, and couldn't invite many people, so they're having a party tomorrow night, for those who they didn't invite to the wedding. Mary

WOW! that really is nice and I hope it is the little girl who may be looking for Debi to thank her. How wonderful that will be if that is the case. My hat is off to Debi for doing such a wonderful thing.

Hi Liz!!! How ya do'in? Hope you're staying warm on a day like today!!! It's freezing here!!!! The wind takes your breath away!! This is day 4 of the diet!. Lost 4 lbs. I got up in the middle of the night; I don't know if my blood sugar was low, but I HAD to have two little Snickers!!!!! Donna brought pics of her Christmas present from us; Ben put the unfinished cabinets together, and Donna stained them. She's not fininshed yet; Still has the doors, to do. She couldn't stand the smell of the stain, so decided to finish when it's warm out, and she can have more ventillation.
Re: Debi's little girl. Probably the family, who all benefitted from Debi's $, feel a dent in the budget, now that WV pulled out. I think they want to connect again because of money, but we don't blame them. People are so impoverished there. I think it would be great if Debi could continue support. I am curious how they got my phone number. Obviously, Debi lived here awhile back. They thought they could reach Debi here, probably. I tried to tell them, I was Debi's Mother, by using the word, Mama..... I'm Debi's Mama. I heard some chuckles, and 'Ohhh.' We'll see. Talk to ya on the 'other Board' Mary

I'm at work on this frigid day (Monday). We don't get the King holiday off. When I walked in the office this morning the thermostat read 63 and that is cold for an office. So I immediately put the heat up and plugged in an electric space heater. Hopefully I will get out early and go home to my nice warm house.
I think it is wonderful that Debi helped that family the way she did. She will be rewarded in the future from God above. God Bless her.

Liz

Re: Well, that was like pulling teeth!!!!

Thanks for your kind words, Liz!! Deb hasn't heard from them yet, via her phone. Maybe my Spanish was not as good as I thought!! Keep warm!! Ben took off today, because of the cold! Mary
