NWR: Property tax question

Okay, so my house was assessed by the tax appraisal people for way more than we paid for it (I guess this is a good thing in the end) which means I'm going to be paying high taxes. Someone told me I could go to the tax office/courts and show them how much I paid for my house and they will reduce it but I don't know how to go about this...im Nervous...never been to court.

Re: NWR: Property tax question

I've never heard about that being done before. Is your house brand new? If not, you should be paying the same taxes the previous owners paid, unless they got some kind of discount.

When our house was appraised it wasn't for taxes, but for the mortgage company. But if I remember correctly you already closed on the house.

The house was built in 06 so its fairly new but we arent the orginal owners. The other owners only paid like $500 a year (lucky them) b/c the house wasnt appraised yet for tax purposes back then. My property taxes are the same as if I was living on L.I. and Im in Dallas!!! Its crazy!

OMG! I hope it works out! As long as you have everything documented you should be okay. Court is easy. You're just going to be showing paper work.
