NYC G2G...For a REALLY GOOD CAUSE! (Babies and others in need-pretty far away too)

Ok So I was thinking about this because of my excercise thread that people were so helpful with. What if we organized something for a cause?

Every year I do the March of Dimes walk, now called the March for Babies. i was a premie, as were my twin sisters who didnt make it, and my now 6' tall brother lol. he was 4 pounds and 11 oz and I was 5 pounds and 2 oz. Tracey and Vanessa whom I walk for every year, were a pound apiece. Two years ago I walked for a friend whose daughetr was born 1 1/2 pounds.

I have always raised a good amount of money on my own, but I was thinking maybe we can make it a team effort this year? I will be posting the little site they give each person registered, so people can donate online if they want. But I thought maybe we could do it as team LIW or if not that walk, another one?

I do not know how long the March for Babies is but it starts downtown by Lincoln Center. You go at your own pace and it might be alot of fun with many of us and its excercise! let me know what you guys think. I would be willing to try and organize it with help. I feel really strongly about this cause and the Avon one in October because of my mom and her scare, and I think if we all organized we could really make a difference and have some fun while we are at it. Parkinson’s Unity Walk
April 26, 2008 (SHORT walk! 2-mile circular walk, starting and ending at the New York City Central Park Bandshell.)

March of Dimes
April 27, 2008

Aids Walk New York
May 18, 2008 (6.2 miles and takes roughly 2-3 hours to complete)

Avon Breast cancer Walk
October 4-5, 2008 (they walk up to 26.2 miles on Saturday, and 13.1 miles on Sunday)

What a great cause! I would totally gtg for this! Count me in to walk/donate/anything that will be decided :)

omg - i would love to do something like this! And the babies is a really great cause... and btw - i had NO idea u were born into a set of triplets...that is very special & i can see why u do this every year! i'm gonna check into the site & see the time, date, starting point & ending point & hopefully register! everyone should keep each other posted on this.....I dont wanna register & then end up doing it by myself lol. but seriously what a FABULOUS idea!

ps jen: i prefer walking and jogging while laughing our a**es off - u better not be pullin' out ur crazy cardio training on us! lord knows i aint runnin' that ENTIRE time for sh*t!

LOL Captain jenn..ah yes I will finally fulfill my mothe'rs grandiose ideas of greatness for me....

Oh I wasn't born into triplets! I miswrote that sorry! I was born first then 2 years later my mom had twin baby girls and lost them midway. She could never carry to fulll term.

I was 2 1/2 months early and so was my brother. Realyl surprising we survived because this was the 80's. Technology now is soo much betetr and being a premature baby is nto an automatic death sentence, which is why I really want to do this.


I dragged Pete out last year but he rebelsl lol. Not a walker. Dude..NO POWERWALKING!!! that is the number 1 rule from the 'Team Captain.'

Cat they have potties lol. Or you can dunk into Mickey D's along the route!

Awesome guys! If we can get together at least 1o girls, I will create a team for us. I think you need a certain number for a team but not sure. I can't find the info on the new site. Not as easy to navigate anymore.

OK im going to do this... I am confident we can get alot of girls. Maybe we can post it on BHB and just make it a whole LI/NYC weddings eandeavor.

And what should our team goal be? Alone I have made about 350 bucks in the past. What do we think is a reasonable goal as a team? I don't want to set it too high. I would rather set a lower number and then if we exceed it AWESOME. If not, we're still ok.

First, this is a GREAT cause. I'm not in the best shape, but I would be down to do it!

My cousin was a premie, born in 1980 at 51/2 MONTHS and weighed less than 2 lbs. She is now almost 28 and a mother of two perfectly healthy boys.

Second, I vote for the name to be 'Team Newlyweds!' So original, I know, but it fits!
