Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

Has anyone booked their catering hall 6 months before the wedding? If so do you think you saved because it's so close?
Has anyone waited to book their catering hall so they could get a better deal?

My FH has this theory that if we wait close to 6 months prior to our wedding and book then that we will save more money.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

I am not sure if you would save or not, my guess would be no in that 6 month time frame. If you approached a hall w/in a few weeks they might cut you a good deal. I wouldn't risk not having a RH within 2 months of my date

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

I didn't but you have to make sure all the vendors are available on shorter notice.
If you are planning on this maybe call all the vendors you have in mind before you book and see if they are available.

I wouldnt do this IMHO if I was in love with a particular venue.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

i booked my RH 4 months before the wedding date.. we had a short engagement..

the price did drop a good amount... afterall they need to fill the date...

best bet is you just call the RH's and see if the time you are looking is available...

i had a lot of luck with it... we had good options!!

good luck!

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

i would have no problem doing this if i was flexible on the month/weekend we were getting married - the reason we didnt do this was because of all our other vendors - we booked 1 year and 3- 4 months before our wedding in hopes that the vendors we wanted to use would still be available...

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

My cousin did. They saved a ton. They also booked a December date though.

You may not have much luck with April...

She booked Crescent Beach Club in November for a December wedding... So my guess is look at waterfront venues for, say, February... You'll have a better shot with those in the off-season, know what I mean?

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

We booked our reception hall only 5 months before the wedding, but we're only having a 5 and a half month engagement. The prices were the same as they would have been if we booked earlier, we were just happy the date was available. If you have a particular hall in mind, I wouldn't suggest waiting.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

If you don't really have your heart set on any one RH, then it might be worth it to shop around and wait. My brother and SIL were really flexible with the date as when they started looking there was a date open 6 months away and they took it, plus, they were able to get a discount on the pricing since it was close to the holidays and the RH was sure that no one else would take it.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

A friend of mine planned her wedding in less than 6 months - including catering hall and the works- for some things she ended up paying more because she was stuck in a sense that she needed the services the vendors were supplying.

So in the end I'm not sure - also you have to shell out more $$ quicker than planning say a year in advance where payments can be worked into a less tight schedule.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

we booked 3 months before the wedding and yeah we got a really good deal...BUT we already had all our vendors which we had booked over a year in advance. we had a hall too....but we had to find a new one....so we didn't do it purposely.

i wouldn't suggest it. either you'll have to choose a date so that you can book vendors in advance and get the ones you want, and have a small amount of halls to choose from who will be available on that date, or you'll have to book your hall AND all your vendors w only a few months to do it all, and you won't have a good selection of vendors to choose from b/c many will be booked already w such short notice.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

When my and my now sister-in-law were looking to get married last year, last minute they got some really good deals. The RH want to book their dates so they lower their price and they were getting deals for like $50-$70pp.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

It is risky... I would only do it if you don't care exactly where you wind up and if you are not looking to have your wedding on a popular weekend or are flexible with the timing (can do sunday afternoon or brunch or something). Don't forget, you may also need to book vendors too if the RH doesn't do linens, flowers, etc.

Re: Anyone book their catering hall within 6 months of wedding???

do you have a particular date in mind?

you might also want to check the boards to find brides who've cancelled their weddings or changed locations...halls want to book those dates so you may have leverage to bring the price down (after all, the RH has kept the original bride's down payment)
