Re: Vet?? Can someone help??

There is Crawford Animal Hopsital in Lynbrook(right near Velley Stream) and then there is Central Veterinary in Valley Stream (they are 24 hrs if you call with an emergency) I do not know the numbers, but I am pretty sure that Crawford works with you.
HTH and that your puppy feels better

Re: Vet?? Can someone help??

Hey, don't know if it's too late for this... but i work in an animal hospital... for future reference:

1. There's something called 'Care Credit' that a LOT of vets participate in. It's basically a credit card for pets (can also use for human dental care). You should apply for it, it can really come in handy at times like this. It starts at zero interest, usually that lasts a year but it varies by the agreement with the place where you apply for it... all of the big hospitals take it so in emergencies it's REALLY useful.

2. Maybe not the most comfortable way to go... but vets are required to treat your animal if you bring it in in a life-threatening situation and request treatment (life-sustaining anyway... they don't have to do major surgeries or chemo etc... without the $$). If it's not life threatening they can send you home with minimal treatment... but not if it puts the animal in danger of death as a result of discharge. They all do require payment at the time of pick up (all I've come across anyway... and care credit is a form of payment), HOWEVER they can NOT legally refuse to let you take your pet home, even if you haven't paid your bill. Pets are property, and they belong to you. Legally vets can't interfere with that. Granted most vets make you leave a 50% deposit initially anyway, so you'll have to come up with at least that much... but if you're stuck in a situation where your pet needs life saving procedures, and you're able to come up with that 50% but not a penny more... LIE! Tell them you'll pay at pick up. Sign the estimate, and leave your deposit. Then just make sure you make regular payments on the bill over time. If you're making regular payments they can't/wont send you to collections, it'll get paid off eventually, and your pet will have survived the ordeal

I've had to do that once... the dog was a stray with severe pneumonia... I had the money for treatment at first but he kept getting worse and the bill kept going up... I signed for everything but could only pay about 1/2 by the end (bill was like $7000!!!). It took me YEARS to pay off, but the dog lived (they were recommending euthanasia...) and is in a great home with an older couple on a farm now, so I don't regret it!

Hope everything turned out OK. What was wrong with your puppy??
