MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
Ive begun to look at some options for our HM and Ik now we only have about 5-6 days and a pretty small budget (no more than $1200 pp) so I was looking at Caribbean and Mexico since both of us have never been to either.I REALLYYYY wanna go to Mexico (Rivera Maya) but I'm totally nervous about getting sick. I have a weak stomach as it is--can someone let me know if it's true that you can get sick there from drinking the water??
OR if anyone has any other recommendations for similar HM desinations that are affordable, please let me know!!!
thank youuuuu

i would be careful about going to mexico. fh and i were looking into it and when we talked to family and friends we were told that right now mexico is not a safe destination at the moment. i know that whenever you travel abroad you take that chance, but i wouldnt want to worry about that on my honeymoon. below is the governments travel website that issues all the warnings on travel from the US to other countries. i would check that out before making decisions. thats what i always do.

if you are not planning on leaving your resort though im sure you will not have any safety issues.. but if you were planning on taking excursions and going into the town, mexico may not be the best option.

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
I went to Mex last Feb break, and got sick on the second day I was there...it was awful. I think if you're in a resort though you will be fine. I was staying in a house in Sayulita. Gorgeous, but not when sick! What about Costa Rica??

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
I've been to Mexico (Cancun, specifically) countless times and even spent a summer there. I've never gotten sick and always felt safe. Just drink bottled water and you'll be fine. I wouldn't drink the water from the tap, but it's ok to brush your teeth with. All the restaurants use bottled and purified water. As for safety, it's the same as going anywhere...just be on your guard. Be aware of your surroundings and you'll be fine.

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
i have been to mexico a number of times and never gotten sick. i was just in riviera maya in september. if you stay at a decent resort, all their water goes through a filtration system and most give out free bottles of water. it would be advertised or you can call to verify. riviera maya was excellent, esp the mayan ruins (chichen itza).

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
Oh, The Royal Hide away, one of my favorite places in the world....I have a horrible stomach, I have been to Mexico countless times, never got sick. I don't know what the whole Mexico isn't safe thing is about, but like I said, countless times, very safe place. Never, ever anything to worry about. Stay legal and you will be fine, no speeding in Mexico and no drugs. My FMIL told me DR is bad for the week stomach, that you should even keep your mouth shut in the shower, so keep that in mind, but I never had problems in Mexico. You can get alot for your money, the flight isn't bad or too expensive, and the water, one of my favs....Good Luck....Feel free to FM me is you have any questions....

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
I've been to Mexico a few times (Playa del Carmen and Cozumel) and have always loved it there! My FH and I never had any stomach problems, just make sure of course that you only drink bottled water. I think the Riviera Maya is such a beautiful place and all the people and locals that we met were really friendly. At least from my experience, I thought it was very safe--and we both did a ton of activities all over the area on our own. We even made use of the 'local public transportation' (also known as colectivos!) while we were there, and always felt safe. I would definitely give it a shot and look into it, I know there are plenty of amazing/romantic resorts in the Riviera Maya.

We booked both the Excellence and the Royal Hideaway in Riviera Maya. It's very affordable. You can also try the Excellence in Punta Cana. My boss just came back from Punta Cana and it's beautiful.

Re: MEXICO--SOME QUESTIONS
I've been to Mexico so many times and have never been sick. When you stay on resorts they have filter systems that filter out the water and the water you are drinking is completely safe. However to be on the same side don't have any salad or ice in your drinks.
