NY theme?

Has anyone ever done or seen a New York theme done? I know it sounds cheesy, but we will have a lot of out of towners from the mid west who haven't been to NY so we thought it would be cute. We were thinking of making each table a different place in NY..like the Hamptons, Times Square, Montauk Point, etc. Any ideas or pictures?

Re: NY theme?

i was just on www.colettescakes.com & they had a nyc skyline wedding cake.

also just last night i was thinking about nyc and table numbers and i thought it might be cute to name each table after a certain part of the city...

kind of like Midtown and then you can put a pic of the Empire State Building....etc....

hope this helps

Its a cute idea-just be creative with it.

Like take photos of you and your DH in the various spots in NYC that you frequent alot-mkaes ie more personal Use those for table numbers.

Re: NY theme?

From a site:

New York City is the city of dreams and what better way to dream than to fall in love and get married in the beautiful city? If you can’t, then, the next best thing will be to bring the city to you, and have a NY themed wedding. All you need to bring the splendor, excitement and magic of The City, is to decorate with the Big Apple in mind.

If you can have the wedding in NY, than you are lucky to have the help and the resources that you have available to you. You can contact the New York City tourism website and book one of the many landmarks to make your NY wedding decoration efforts easy.

Carnegie Hall, Waldorf Astoria, Ellis Island, New York Botanical Garden, and of course Central Park are just a few of the places that will bring pre-decorated NY magic and wonder to your wedding celebration. A ride in a horse drawn carriage, or a trip in a famous New York City yellow cab are just a few ways that a New Yorker will celebrate a wedding with a NY flair.

Bringing the magic of NY to the place of your wedding is just as simple. Start your NY wedding decoration by collecting post card with views of New York City Landmarks. If you can’t go to the places like the Empire State building, then have it come to you. Enlarge pictures of the Empire State Building, the Chrysler Building, the two towers of the World Trade center, the Woolworth building, and a few high rise buildings that give the NY view its silhouette.

There is also the Washington Arch from the Washington square park that you can’t forget to include as part of the NY wedding decor. Make a 3-D, life-like cutout of these pictures and place them strategically through the reception area. In the entrance, or in a corner of the hall, set up ‘bill boards’ reminiscent of the ones in Time Square.

Have a few screens of television where pictures of the couple will flash with bright colors that stay lit up all night, advertising the love that they share. On one wall, Post a replica of the Sidewalk Clock located on 5th Avenue.

Another NY wedding decoration idea is to have aisle runners in the hall that have the tracks of the subway system painted or plastered on it. Each stop along the ‘tracks’ will be a table reserved for the guests. Be sure to let the guests know which line will lead to their table when you send them the invitation cards, which of course are the post cards of the city.

The foods that you serve and how you serve them is also part of the NY wedding decorations. There is nothing that says NY like a hot dog and a pretzel form one of the venders that line the city streets. While you might not want to serve hot dogs and pretzels at your wedding, you can set up the bar area to look like the vending cars.

Another way you can bring NY flair to the wedding is with cake decoration. Use little buildings on top of a few cakes. Then, connect the cakes with a mock-up Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, or the George Washington Bridge which are all important parts of The City.

With your hall decorated with images of NY, and the guests all seated along the subway stops, you can relax and enjoy your NY inspired wedding

I had a semi NY theme. We named the tables after NYC locations...Gramercy Park, Hell's Kitchen, Gramercy Park, etc.

Re: NY theme?

I went to a wedding last year that had a New York Theme and it was really beautiful. They used mini taxi cabs for the place cards and had a NYC skyline sculpture. Everything looked beautiful!!!

Re: NY theme?

I saw a bride that did NY as a theme and she had little taxi cabs on the tables where everyone sat. I think she also had a NY pretzel stand or something similar to that...forgot everything else she did, but I remember it was cute.
