STD Question - When to send???

Ok, so I ordered my STD magnets, and they should be here in 2 weeks or so.

I was going to send them out by the end of April, but I am reading here and in my wedding books that you should send them out one year before the wedding.

Here's my reasoning for wanting to send them now: 80% of our friends already know the date, where it is, and some details. Both our families are nosy (in a good way - they are excited and want to know the details), so alot of them know already, and I know that word is spreading.

So I feel like I should send them now, because if I wait til October of this year, or even the end of summer, everyone is going to know already, so I kinda feel like what's the point???

But I also don't want to look dumb or like I'm rushing in sending them out now, when it's a year and a half before the wedding. They are magnets, not cards. I have a feeling STD cards at this point would end up in the garbage or shoved in a drawer somewhere, but magnets I hope would go on the fridge.

So girls, what do you think is best? Do it now, wait til end of summer, or wait til October? And why?

I sent mine out last month bcuz there will be 4 weddings in my family next year and i wanted my family to start making plans for MINE! lol

honestly, imo, i feel theres no need to even send em out 1+ yrs in advance unless you are booked on a holiday wekeend....

i would even say 8 months to the day would be fine for you... or even send em out with your xmas cards!!! this is what i was gonna do but we're not doing stds anymore

I too have my STD cards and am a 10/09 bride and am dying to send them out. i think i will wait till summer then that is it. i have spent hour son my weddign website and that is on the STD so want people to see that as early as possible and also sending a little note with hotel activities and wknd activities and want that out soon as wedding is over a holiday wknd and do not want guests to miss out on hotel rooms

yes I agree but have the holiday wknd situation and FH side includes a lot of OOT guests which is another consideration

I think one year out is plenty of time in advance. I think if you send them out now people will not remember that your wedding is a year and 7 months away. I would definitely wait till October of this year. JMO!

i guess you can send them out when you want. if your wedding falls on a holiday weekend, send them early beacuse people make their vacation plans. I'm getting married in May'09 and I was told that i should send out STD's 6 months prior to my wedding...so Nov I wil send mine out.

I sent mine out about a year and 4 months ahead. What's it going to hurt for those to know early and save the date!! I looked at it as an annoucement too.

The thing is u can send them out whenever you want. i'm sending mine out in april but i also just got mine and i still have to address them all LOL. Honestly i dont know if i would be able to wait till october if i had them in my hands Its whatever u want to do. Your excited and ur family is excited for you. Maybe sned out some now to close friends and family and then the others in october.

I would wait till at least a year before the wedding... this is just my opinion you can do what you want...but... I think that if you send them out too early people are just going to forget or misplace them magnet or not. If I got a std that far in advance I would def forget about it till the invite came... esp since I dont have a magnetic fridge. a lot of people have new kitchens with a fridge that isnt magnetic im also considering not doign magnets for this reason but thats a whole other story. Anyways people are not going to be able to start making plans over a year in advance...can you even get prices for hotels that early? most likely they will put it off bc they think they have so much time and then forget about it till its too late! JMO
