Weight gain from muscle...does anyone know?

I've always done strength training, but I changed my routine in the last year or so which I think might be making me build more muscle mass. I've gained maybe 3-4lbs in the last year, but my measurements are exactly the same and my clothes fit exactly the same. Could that 3-4lbs gain all be from muscle weight? It seems like a lot.

Sure can be - muscle is heavier than fat.

Re: Weight gain from muscle...does anyone know?

I recently read that it isn't true that you gain weight when you strength train. Can't remember where I read it but they said that myth isn't true.

Maybe it's water weight? Have you been eating things high in salt/sodium?

Re: Weight gain from muscle...does anyone know?

It is definitely possible. Muscle doesn't weigh more than fat (a pound is a pound). Muscle is more dense than fat, so the space where you had a pound of fat could be replaced with say 2-3 pounds of muscle.

Good to know....thanks. Unfortunately I tend not to believe anything but the number on the scale, and 3-4lbs seemed like a lot to me.
