Re: How far in advance do you make an appointment to go wedding dress shopping?

it depends, you could make it the day of or a week in advance---i'd say to make it a few days in advance so you know you have the day/time you want----i spent an average of 2 hours in each store--9 stores later and i found my dress! (not to mention, i went to some stores more than once !!

Re: How far in advance do you make an appointment to go wedding dress shopping?

A lot depends on where & when your going shopping. If you want to go to Kleinfeld's (or other popular bridal salons) on a weekend, I would suggest making an appt. 2-3 weeks (maybe even a month, especially if there's a good trunk show happening) in advance. If you have time during the day in the middle of the week, you can usually get an appt. anytime you want.

On the off chance that I misunderstood your post and you really want to know how far in advance you need to order your dress, I would say you can safely order up to 6 months prior to your wedding. More exclusive designers sometimes take longer (an extra month or two) so take this into account.

Hope this helps.

PS--The appointment usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half, sometimes a little longer depending on how many gowns you try on.

If you want to go on a weekend I would call at least a week before so that you have your choice of times.

If you want to go to saks or bergdorfs on a weekend...a month or so before the appt. I tried two and three weeks before and couldn't get an appt.

You can start looking whenever you like!!! Most bridal salons need appointments, BUT you can go to Macys Bridal Salon in Manhasset and walk right in! They have lots of help there!

Dress shopping can take up your whole day! If you're going to make more than one appt. a day, I'd space them out atleast 1 1/2 between each! Good luck and have fun!

Based on my experience, you may also want to get one of the first appointments if you are going on a weekend - the salons get REALLY busy as the day goes one and I found i got more time and felt less rushed if I was the first morning appointment - good luck!
