Question/Vent of the Day

I like to go for manicures and pedicures weekly. Its my time to sit in the chair, relax, read a magazine, and have my feet and hands worked on... I work 780809 jobs, and this is my one hour a week of peace... and yet, some moms think its a-ok to 1) bring their loud, abnoxious child into the nail salon or 2) make their 3 year old daughter get their nails done, thus taking up a nail girl and making ME, an adult customer, wait. This drives me friggin INSANE... why should I have to wait b/c some toddler wants a flower on her toenail? Why should I have to listen to a little girl run back and forth around the salon and yell about her new pool?

So, my Q is:

Do you think that places like this should be adult only??

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

Yes, definitely!
I also can't stand people who SCREAM on their cellphones while I'm trying to relax.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I agree about the kids running around. Parents need to control their kids! My FG goes with her mom and grandma to the nail salon and gets her nails painted. Then again she behaves. I don't think there is anything wrong with kids getting their nails done. It's only one coat of polish and the parents pay for it.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I TOTALLY AGREE.

If you are not willing to 'control' your child and keep them from running wild then they should not be there. I love that time at the nail place too, it will annoy the craap out of me to sit through a screaming child or someone yelling at their kid to stop.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I dont know how I feel about not allowing children in a nail salon. I know my sister uses it as special bonding time with her oldest daughter (4 yrs old). They go get manicures and go out to lunch, I also envision doing the same things with my daughter (if I have one) one day! I do not however, agree with the child running around the salon. But I cant say that children should be banned.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

OMGGGGGGGGGG heather I had that same experience last week while getting my nails. Except 1 mother decided it would be nice to bring her 4,5, and 7 yr old BOYS in with her to all get manicures. Last time i checked a 4 yr old boy, let alone ANY little boy doesnt need a manicure.
Then her friend walked in with her 6yr old daughter. They let the kids run around while they spoke very loudly across the room to eachother about their thousands of dollars in clothes that they purchased from Nordstroms.
They had adult women waiting on the couch for a nail lady to be free to help them, when there was no reason for little boys to be holding people up. Absolultely ridiculous.

I think there should be adults only places, or at least some sort of age restriction that allows girls/guys ages ___ and up

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I totally think it should be. Most poeople who go there go to relax and enjoy their mani/pedis. I def. think there should be an age restriction or no kids allowed.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

Aww Mima....so i'm guessing you're not having kids at your wedding??? LOL!! IMO I think it's cute to take my niece to get her nails done and I pay for it just like my own nails so there is still a service being performed and since it's a public business, I don't think it's fair to be prejudiced in that respect. HOWEVER, having kids run around and be obnoxious is another story. If the child doesn't know how to behave and sit there patiently, then it's not fair to anyone else in the salon.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I do believe kids can get their nails done but ony if they are well behaved. No child should be running back and forth and screaming. WHile the parent does nothing. I also hate when women chat on their cell phones. I dont need to hear your business. Iam trying to relax for an hour!!!!!

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I don't think that parents should bring children to a place like that unless they know their children will behave. If the kids are acting up, the parents should leave.

However, I also think that there is nothing wrong with a little girl getting her nails painted if she is sitting there and getting it done quietly. It only takes a few minutes to do little girls anyway. The parents pay for it, so why not? I personally think its cute when the mothers take their daughters to get it done (and they behave, of course)

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

well.... I am not the most kid friendly person and i usually go in the city and people rarely bring kids BUT i will say that I've gone with my sister and 4 year old niece to one in LI... and while I agree with you about screaming kids, my niece is so cute about getting her nails done and never runs around yelling or screaming... she just sits there all shy while they do her nails, and i know my sister (who works all week) considers it bonding time.

kids that run around the nail salon yelling and screaming...that's their mother's fault. I hate seeing them let their kids run wild, in any setting.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

I'm not a mother, but I can say that just because a woman has kids does not mean that she isn't allowed to treat herself to a mani and pedi. Think about it this way... do you think SHE wants to have her screaming child there? Chances are, that child is there because there is no one else around to watch this kid for an hour while mommy gets her nails done. It's annoying, but in my head, there is a story behind why that kid is there? (I enjoy making up stories about random strangers... LOL). Not to say it's not annoying and obnoxious though.

As far as the little girl getting HER nails done. That doesn't bother me at all. I think it's adorable and not for nothing, she's a paying customer too (well, her mom is the one paying but you get it). Heather, you've said before that your mom was a SAHM and she took you all over to plays to lunches and so on and so forth, and while I'm sure you were perfectly well-behaved, I'm sure there were other patrons who skoffed at the idea of a child being in their presence where, in their minds, only adults should be allowed.

What can you do... we are forced to co-exsist with children... it can be torture but it can also be an absolute pleasure.

This is a great idea! I have seen some kids that are so well behaved that you dont even know that they are there but usually the younger ones dont have the patience to sit still that long. I am not a parent, but I know that if I was, I would be more than happy to leave my child home if I could to have some ME time

Boys? That is a little weird. But last was Mother's Day and maybe it was what she wanted. I also think everyones opinions will change once you have children of your own. If your children know how to behave, it should not be a problem.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

aw, I know the feeling, but think of it this way, when you have your little girl and she wants to get her nails done, it will be your bonding time with her.

Trust me, sometimes I want to turn to the kid and scream be quiet, or hurry up, I don't have 5 hours to wait for you to put a flower on her toe, but what can ya do...

Do they make you wait when you have an appointment? I go weekly too, cause like you its my time, I turn my phone off and talk to people I know there and relax. I find that going on Mondays, is the best, cause its usually really quiet...

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

LOL you REALLY hate kids huh?

I totally agree that kids should be controlled in the nail place. It isn't fair to the mothers, the other customers AND the kids. Did you want to sit and play nice for an hour while mommy got her nails done? I get bored in there so I can't imagine how boring it would be for a five year old boy!

As for getting their nails done, my nieces go all the time and they sit and get their nails painted - its not a full manicure. And then they dry for a few minutes - it makes them feel special. I only bring them and do THEIR nails and I do nothing for myself so I can watch them and make sure they behave - I would never be five chairs over doing my own thing because its just not safe! Someone could walk out with them because I need acrylic tips!

Children are technically paying customers ( their parents are paying ) so there is no reason that they shouldn't go first if they were there first.

Re: Question/Vent of the Day

i think its annoying as well, but the more you take your kids out the better behaved they will beocme in public. i also think that its is the parents fault for not tell their children to quiet down and/or stop running, but you have to remember they are paying the same price as everyone else who is getting there nails done, or at least where i go there is no discount for little kids. you can always got to a spa for your mani and pedis, you would most likely avoid the kiddies.
