040508BRIDE & CHUCHUCOP0412 VERY LONG WEDDING REVIEW. LOMBARDI’S ON THE SOUND, THOMAS PAUL, OKSANA, LUMARA SALON, NASSAU COUNTY PIPES AND DRUMS, JOHN SOFIA JEWELERS, SANDYS SHOES, LILETTES BRIDAL, BRI

First I have to say I can’t believe the time has come to write this. Rich and I were engaged December 8, 2006 on the Norwegian Dawn (10-day Eastern Caribbean Cruise). We met on May 31, 2003. Our wedding took place on April 5, 2008.....grab a drink, enjoy, beware that this is pretty honest, and here goes:

My Mom and Dad (Momof2):
My parents planned my wedding and my sisters weddings both within 6 months of eachother. My sister was married November 24th of 2007. They did an amazing job all around. There were so many obstacles in their way between family issues, deaths, guest lists, in-law lists, dresses, fittings, you name it....and they did such an awesome job. There was nothing that could get in their way of planning the absolute best day ever!!!!! I love you both so much!!!!!!! And of course, gotta say Hi to my baby, Oreo!!!

Of course, My HUSBAND Rich :)
I met my husband 5 years ago, May 31, 2003 to be exact. He was the longest first date of my life.....we stayed out from 11am until probably 2 in the morning. He was from NJ, I am from LI.....we went to the beach, the mall, to dinner, the movies...we did it all in 1 day. Oddly enough, that wasn’t enough to convince me that he would have ever been the “one”. I actually didn’t think it was going to work out from the get-go, the long distance thing just wasn’t for me. Well....I was dead wrong. 5 years of traveling the belt parkway, the holland tunnel, the LIE.....hours and hours and hours of traffic...snow storms....flooding......it was never enough to keep us apart. If you ask people about us, they’ll tell you we fight like cats and dogs but always manage to kiss and make up. He’s quiet, I’m loud....he likes fishing, i love shopping.....cop...nurse.....he’s beer and i’m a martini......polar opposites, but much like my own parents, we make it work. We got engaged on our yearly cruise in 2006. I knew it was going to happen, but he kept me in suspense until the 2nd night anyway
The last year of wedding planning has been insane. During that time, he started a new job, I finished school, passed my boards, started a new job, lost my grandfather, helped my sister with her wedding (11/24) and then sadly went through another tragedy just 1 week before the wedding. Rich was always there and never ran away...even when i was chasing him around the house with shoes and catalogs and my laptop trying to show him what could possibly be so funny on LIW at 2 in the morning
The thing I love the most about him is that he knows we are very different people but always embraces who I AM and always tries to understand my crazy world.....he even signed up on LIW for a minute to see what we were all about!! Haha
I have to say, he was pretty good during the wedding planning and he knew exactly when to help and exactly when to just let me take the wheel :) There were a few times when i’m pretty sure he wanted to just run and hide, but he never did......our wedding was the “best day of his life” and I couldn’t be happier (unless some of you decided to move to NJ!!!)
watching his bride walk down the aisle....

LIWeddings.Com:
What can I say???? I am amazed that people can actually plan a wedding without this site....I know there is no way I could’ve!!!! Who would have ever thought to do WE DO LETTERS and how important they would be??? LOL?? If it wasn’t for this site, I probably would’ve eloped because I didn’t know the first or last thing about wedding planning. My fellow 08-er’s have been the biggest help and inspiration. The last 2 weeks before the wedding were pretty trying, I lost my cousin in a motorcycle accident one week before my big day, and my grandfather had also passed in October....and if it wasn’t for all of the support and encouragement from everyone here, I don’t know if the wedding would’ve been the same. You guys cheered me on CONSTANTLY and really gave me the strength to celebrate the biggest day of my life despite the tragedies along the way. You are all so beautiful and such great people, your FH’s and DH’s are lucky to have you all!!!!! If I could fit every single one of you in my apartment for dinner, I would!

Weather:
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I called Thomas Paul from the nail salon the day before the wedding FREAKING OUT because the weatherman was calling for rain.....I panicked. We were supposed to take pictures at the beach, and I couldn’t think of what we could do if it did in fact, rain. He reassurred me the entire time, and Friday night I prayed like crazy to my grandfather to please watch over us and give us good weather, well....sure enough.....we had a gorgeous day!!!!!!!! Not a could in the sky, the sun was shining......it was beautiful!!!!!! When we arrived at the church, I stepped out of the limo with my dad and he said “Ang, you have a beautiful day” and I just looked up at the sky, said “Thank you Pop-Pop!!!” and ran inside and got married.

St. Kilians Roman Catholic Church:

I didn’t grade the church because I don’t think that is appropriate, but I will share my story. The original Priest that was going to Marry us had a family emergency the week of the wedding. He passed the wedding on to another priest who we met for the first time at the rehearsal. I gave him the sheet of paper completely filled out with all the info they needed. Who would do readings, what readings we chose, who needed to be mentioned in the prayer for our deceased relatives, and just basic info about Rich and myself.
Well, we get up to the altar, and the priest mentions how my DH is a cop, and I am a teacher (I am a nurse). There was the first correction. He then proceeds to announce the first reading....my poor aunt goes up to the altar, and the book wasn’t even open. So the priest randomly selected a reading, one she had never practiced before, and there she went. Mind you, we spent days going through readings finding the ones that meant the most to us, and it was kind of ruined. The second reading was done by our brother-in-law, which kind of made up for the first one that bombed. It started off as “Wives should Obey their husbands...” and the entire church erupted hysterically laughing. Andy couldn’t get through it without cracking up, but there were some good points in it.

Next issue was the gifts that had to be brought up. The original names on the list were wrong, but we corrected them the night of the rehearsal. Well, apparently this priest RE-WROTE the whole paper, and called out the original names. We corrected him again, the gifts were brought up.

Finally, he does the Offeratory Prayer for the deceased. I wrote every name out loud and clear. When he re-wrote it, he left out 2 names. My grandfather, and my husbands grandfather. When DH corrected him (before the mass started) he gave the wrong name and called JOSEPH instead of THOMAS. Joseph is my other grandfather who is alive and well and sitting in the audience, and my grandfather Thomas passed away in October. The priest caught on that something was wrong when he saw the looks on our faces (I couldn’t help but start crying, I was very very close to my grandfather) and when we corrected him, he still never mentioned my deceased grandfathers name. He just apologized to the living one.

Bottom line, I felt like we were at someone else’s wedding. I understand things happen and can’t be helped, but all of the personality of the mass was messed up, and it really bothered me that my grandfather wasn’t a part of the mass. I know he was up there watching us though :)

Nassau County Police Drums and Pipes: B+

They were great, showed up on time, played great.....but this was a gift from me to my FH and it would’ve been nice if they hung around to take a picture with us.

Camelot Limos: A+++++++++

Joe is amazing!!!! He sent us the Party Bus and it was great!!!! Very roomy, very neat, and we had so much fun in it!!!! We were running a little late with pictures...the driver mentioned we were getting close to Overtime, but didn’t make a huge deal out of it. Joe was a pleasure to work with for both my wedding and for my sisters bachelorette party....I HIGHLY reccommend them!!!!!!

Thomas Paul Photography & Videography: (Not yet rated)

What can I say??? TP does absolutely amazing work. I def. had a crazy Bridal Party and they were totally professional the entire time!!!! His entire crew went out of their way for us the entire day. There were some pics that I thought he took that were actually not taken, but he said they can get clipped from the video...so we’ll see when I get the video. My pics came out absolutely amazing, everyone is raving about them!!! They didn’t get in the way and even when I was starting to lose it (i’m not a picture person, so this was the one part of the day I was not looking forward to) they made it fun and relaxed. I can’t wait to get my album!!!! :)

Lilette’s Bridal (Baldwin) B

I had a great experience BUYING my gown, however, alterations were another story. The gown was a pretty big on me when it came in so a lot of alterations were needed. I felt from the get-go that I needed to order a size smaller, but they told me not to. Well, it required a lot of alterations, i needed more boning, and I needed the corset sewn in....I don’t think they did a good job with that. My bustle fell apart several times during the day, and I just felt like it was still too big. I had to carry around my gown all night, it got stepped on a million times, and was pretty much destroyed by the end of the night. I called them when I got back from my honeymoon and they have offered to make it up to me. UPDATE 5/27/08:
I just spoke with the owner and she has completely taken care of the situation the best she can being that the wedding day has passed. She was very professional and genuinely apologetic and if I ever need a gown for a party or something I would gladly return :)

Oksana (Make Up) A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Sana was def. my favorite vendor by far!!!!!!!!!! She kept me so relaxed and just cracking up the whole morning. Things that normally would’ve completely pissed me off didn’t even bother me because she just made me laugh about it. She did exactly what I wanted and she is just amazing!!!! I love her to death and can’t wait to find an excuse to use her again!!!!!!!!! (When I hit the lotto, I will be hiring her to do my makeup every single day btw lol)

Lumara Salon and Spa A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Erika has been my colorist and stylist for about a year now. I first went to her for my sisters wedding trial and absolutely fell in love with her talent. I always loved “different” colors for my day to day hair....and she always finds a way to make it work. For the wedding I went back to a medium brown with a lot of blond and carmel highlights. She did an amazing job!!!!! For the style, I had 3 trials with her, finally figuring out what I wanted about 1 week before the big day!!! My hair was pulled to the side and it was gorgeous and comfortable! It felt very “me” and i didn’t feel overdone and fake. I wanted to look like myself and not like a complete stranger. She did an amazing job and so did the rest of the girls that worked on my BP.

Barron’s @ Tri County A

I ordered an extended length Cathedral veil with crystals as well as my comb from them. My veil came in early and it was gorgeous. I needed to send it back to have some beads re-sown, but other then that, everything was cool. I think they are a little $$$ but these are items I’ll be saving and hopefully passing down to my family if style permits lol

DOJ: My cousin Carol A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I had a very hard time finding jewelry that I loved. I am very picky and I like unique items. I bought a million different sets that I wound up returning because they just weren’t “it”. I went to my cousin Carol who has been designing jewelry for a few years, and she hit the nail on the head. FM me for her contact info. She can do just about anything!!! I got so many compliments on my jewelry and I can’t wait to wear it again!!!! (a picture of my aunt who passed away is in the box, this is my cousins mom)

Tommy’s Tunes: A

Overall, Tommy’s company is great. Frank was my MC and everyone was up all night...the dance floor was absolutely packed!!! There were quite a few songs on our Must Play list that never made it for some reason, but in the end, that is one of the stupid things that shouldn’t matter I guess. The only thing that bothered me was that they didn’t play “our song” or my parent’s wedding song. That was sort of a big deal. Other than that, everything was great. THEY EVEN PLAYED THRILLER!!!

Wade Preston: A++++++++++++++++++++++++

He does Billy Joel music Live. He was part of Movin’ Out and he sang for my father and I for our dance, and throughout dinner. He was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! I have been a huge Billy Joel fan for so long and this was just awesome. Everyone absolutely loved him!!!! He totally made my night!!!! He is extremely professional and was an absolute pleasure to work with! FM me for contact info.

John Sofia Jewelers A+

My original engagement ring had some issues with the gold turning from white to a weird yellowish color (from another vendor) so we took it to John Sofia’s in NJ to be reset. They re-set my engagement ring and wedding band and it is absolutely gorgeous! They got it done in record time and it is stunning!!!! I absolutely love it!!! He was very nice to work with, very patient, and very good at what he does. I got my DH’s wedding band there as well, and we are very happy with his service.

Majesty Jewelers St. Maarten A+

DH’s “work” wedding band is a titanium band with Blue laquer and a diamond from Edward Mirell. He loves it, great service, great prices.

Liberty Travel Levittown: A+

Christine is awesome! We booked very last minute and she helped us find a place that would be perfect for us. We were very indecisive about where we wanted to go, but she stayed on the phone with us for a long time trying to weed through our choices. She’s very knowledgeable and informative :)

RIU- Aruba A

Very clean! Very pretty! Very romantic!! Food was decent, however you have to be downstairs by 9AM to make dinner reservations unless you want to eat at the Buffet (great food there).
The pool closed at 6:30 PM...sort of a drawback, however, it gets cool because of the wind, so IDK how much swimming would be done after that time anyway.
The restaurants were great for the most part, dining times are 6:30 or 9:00. Casino was good, the lady next to me (of course) won over $2K on a $1 slot lol.....
The Spa was good. We got a couples massage and wrap with added reflexology. It was very relaxing.....
There was no hot tub, this was a problem. Aruba gets kind of chilly....the pool water was freezing...if you were outside of the pool, you baked if there was no breeze...if you were in the pool, you froze bc the water was so cold and your skin was so hot....if there was a hot tub, it would be perfect.
We had the Master suite Oceanview. We had a huge balcony, jacuzzi inside and outside. Great room. I wasn’t a fan of the bed ( a little too firm for me, DH loved it though).
There were about 5 weddings or so while we were there, and it was neat to be able to watch the ceremonies.....It was really nice...done at sunset. We rented a Jeep for 3 days and drove around Aruba. It was pretty cool, we went off-roading on the beach, down to other beaches and went shopping.
We missed Flying Fishbone, but went to La Trattoria el faro Blanco www.aruba-latrattoria.com It was awesome.
At La Trattoria el Faro Banco
http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb104/oreonemma/100_0690.jpg
If you are going to Aruba, I suggest renting a Jeep so that you can get around easier. Go to the California Lighthouse, def. check out La Trattoria, Baby Beach, Shopping, and the little church. Def. FM me if you want more info on RIU. The nightlife was not all that great, but very relaxing!! We needed it

Dante’s Tuxedos A

DH and the groomsmen got their Tux’s here and had no problems. They all looked great and as far as we know, everything went fine. People ordered from NJ, upstate, and LI and everything was cool. They were able to help us over the phone, really the only problem we had was very minor and corrected quickly. I think he looked pretty hot!

Sandy’s Shoes: A

I didn’t wear the shoes I got from them, but I went there for my sisters wedding too and they were awesome. Very helpful :)

Belissima Bridal Shoe/Modelbride.com

Awesome Selection, great prices!!! Def. Check them out! ModelBride.Com generally offers more designer stuff, Bellissima Bridal carries both more affordable brands and designer

Mani-Pedi Spa Massapequa: A+++++++

They are awesome! I’ve been going here for years and they just do a really great job and they are clean!

Invitations: Nictam Designs: A

Tammy is awesome!!!! She really did a beautiful job!!!! I couldn’t make up my mind, I was stuck between 2 different invites and a tight budget. She worked with me and designed a gorgeous invitation that every single guest commented on. The only problem was that the crystal buckle was a little bit of a problem for shipping. I def. suggest placing vellum over the invite for shipping purposes to prevent the buckles from ripping through the envelope. Also some of the ink smeared on some of the invites, but I ordered extras and everything was fine. Tammy does beautiful work and I highly recommend her!!! She made sure I had an extra one for myself too, so I have it framed and on my nightstand <3

B ridal R eflections Massapequa:

I am not reviewing them. My experience was def. NOT what I had hoped for.

Bill Levkoff: B+

The quality was not great. There was a brooch on the back of the gown and I think most of my girls’ broochs were off by the end of the night because they either broke or didn’t stay on. Needless to say, that was a disappointment. The girls looked amazing anyway :)

Flower Shoppe of Farmingdale:

The owner (Jeanette) is one of my friends from High School. She has always been a creative person and she is an amazing florist. I changed my mind about 4 times and she never kicked me out of the store (haha) and the flowers were absolutely gorgeous. Everyone loved them!!!! FM me for contact info.

Ridgewood Corset Shop, NJ A+++++++++++++

Staff was amazing!!!! I found exactly what I needed and the price was phenomenal!!!

Momma Lombardis: A

Our Rehearsal Dinner was thrown by my IL’s. The food was great, the place was awesome, we all had a great time!

Lombardi’s On The Sound

After many many tastings and appointments, we booked at LOTS at the PJCC. The food was out of this world, the beach is gorgeous, everyone had a great time. However, the location can be inconvenient if you don’t know LI very well (we had many OOT guests!) so we booked shuttles to help them out. Karen (the MD) was not very professional and never seemed to be there when we needed her. On top of that, she broke my toasting flute (the one I used during our toast!!!) and said she would replace it...it’s been over a month and i’m having a very hard time with them. I have to say I’m a little disgusted with them. Before the wedding everything was pretty OK....they changed bakeries and never told me, screwed up the menu (corrected prior to wedding) and changed the rugs (to green!) without telling anyone....i changed my flowers so that the room would look more blended and it worked out fine. Our cake was phenomenal and our Bridal Attendant was out of this world! (young college kid whose name I can’t remember for the life of me).
The dance floor was decent but a little small and the air conditioning isn’t situated ideally for a wedding. I know it sounds like I am picking them apart, but lets face it.....it’s expensive to get married and I just think brides should be honestly forwarned before booking. The AC was great if you were sitting down, but if you were up and dancing, you were def. hot. There are no AC vents over the dance floor. I never thought to check that out, but now I know lol......everything in hindsight is 20/20 right?
The beach made for absolutely phenomenal pictures and we were very pleased. I do not think they were as professional as they should have been so I am not rating them. Regardless of the stuff we are now dealing with or had to deal with the day of, we had a great time. Nothing...absolutely nothing could have ruined our day.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW!!! Please FM me with any questions!!!
