Help picking gym :(

So my dumba** husband decided to tell me yesterday that :
1) I am fat and
2) I am 'oddly' shaped.

Anyway, I agree but lack any motivation to go to a gym. I had a trainer at NYSC before the wedding which was great, it got me there but was so expensive and was overall not happy there!

So I was investigating Lucille Roberts and Curves. I know they are completely different, but can anyone shed some light on the benefits of both and which might be better to get me to go on a regular basis?

Re: Help picking gym :(

I think it depends on what you are looking to do. Curves is a good, quick 30 minute workout. You do strength training for 30 seconds and then 'Cardio' for 30 seconds. These alternating intervals are a good way to get the heart rate up there.

Personally, I prefer a gym where there are weight machines, free weights as well as cardio machines and classes. I think i would probably get bored going only to curves. I also don't think it gave me as great of a workout as I get from a regular gym. But, i think it all depends on what you are looking for! Either way they are both women's gyms so you will most definitely feel more comfy than at NYSC...

Hope this helps!

Re: Help picking gym :(

Thanks, that does help. I was wondering how limiting Curves would be.

Re: Help picking gym :(

I did Curves for a while...didn't really work for me. I needed more than 30 mins for my workout. So I decided to join a gym. I pay $10.99 a month for a gym!! It's huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Help picking gym :(

I go to a gym called Planet Fitness... you can pay 20 dollars a month and bring a friend in for free. they also have tanning machines and massage chairs which you can use for free with your membership. I love that gym, because all different types of people go there and they arent staring you down.

Re: Help picking gym :(

Hi, I was part of Bally's for a while and part of Lucille Roberts, but I didn't fall in Love with working out until I joined Empire Fitness. I believe they have two locations though. Its a very small chain. I love it though for the privacy, for the machines, for the classes. I switch up my workout so I don;t get bored. The classes are included and I love a particular instructor. She has changed my body and my way of thinking about exercising. I take any and all classes that she teaches. I went from working out one day barely to 4 days and I never miss it. Bally's felt like a meat market to me....lucille roberts was not bad, but the equipment was outdated and the classes were soooo repetitive that I got bored after a while. I'm sure this varies by location as well. Hope this is at least somewhat helpful. Good Luck. You just have to find a workout that works for you that you might enjoy and not force yourself to do. My extra perk for myself is to take a Latin Aerobics class.

Re: Help picking gym :(

I have a Lucille membership and I hate my gym.. First off they don't open until like 9am, so I can't go b/f work. So when I go after work it is so packed and I can't get on any of the equipment. I am hoping my Dr. can get me out of my membership. Do you have a synergy near you? They are really nice and not as expensive as others.
