22 Dogs Found In Franklin Square Home In Poor Conditions

Twenty-two dogs, all of them Lhaso Apso/Shitztsu mixes, were found in a Franklin Square house in deplorable conditions, Nassau County police said.

The Town of Hempstead Police and the Nassau County SPCA went to the house after a contractor working on the property saw the dogs in an upstairs bedroom and called them.

An official with the SPCA said the odor was so strong, officers needed a respirator to go into the Daffodil Avenue room.

The owner of the house, John Consolo, 74, was given three summonses for code violations. The violations issued were: having sleeping quarters in the basement, kitchen/plumbing fictures in the basement and having more than three dogs in the house.

The dogs were brought to the Hempstead Animal Shelter where they will be cleaned and put up for adoption.

That makes me absolutely sick that anyone would abuse animals like that.I wish I could take a puppy.
I hope they go to very happy homes.

I almots cried when I watched that on TV last night.....They actually showed the dogs and they said they had been livin/sleeping/eating in their own excrement....
Their hair was SO long and matted and had feces and food matted to it.....
It was literally one of the saddest things that I have ever seen!

I want to call and at least adopt one of them and frank said i could cause he feels bad for them too, but i am afraid that 3 dogs is too much right now if we are going to be moving soon.. i dont know what to do, i WANT to save them.,.:(

I agree with Novemberbride. My sister has been looking for a mix like that so I called her and she is going to call the shelter now and see when she can go see them. She wants one!!

I wish I could save them too but you can't take on too much either. I'm sure they will all get adopted.There are a lot of good people around who would love to care for them.

I saw that. I cant watch news like that or read about it because it makes me very very upset for the animals and I cant get it off my mind. I had just gotten a form to donate to North Shore ANimal League yesterday and after seeing that I wrote a check. I also donate to the ASPCA. Poor little animals!
