We all know that marriage is the joining of 2 families..but that doesn't always mean we like the family we are marrying into.

What is something about your FIL's that you can't stand? What do you love about them?

my fmil is always so negative..she never has a positive outlook on anything..it drives me nuts

FMIL brother is godfather to FH and he has no desire to be a part of most family functions for years and years now-

But most of his family can really have conversations and discusions about diffrent things,, not just sports.. there is always good dinner convo

i'm really lucky my IL's are wonderful people, i have absolutely no complaints except i wished they didn't live upstate so we could see them more, but we love going to visit them.

i know i know it's pathetic that i have nothing bad to say, but i like it that way

um...well its hard because they really are such loving people...

but i think they get too naggy towards FH and want to know everything especially since he is gone. And then it comes back to me asking me the same things (kinda annoying haha) and they know what privacy means but at the same time they do have a hard time with it

but FFIL would give you the shirt off his back he is such a loving sweet guy and he loves me!!

and FMIL i love her she is sweet and loving as well, she works so hard for what they have and she treats me like her daughter (they only have 2 sons)

FIL's are always trying to stir up trouble. Everytime FH comes home from FIL house he is always in a bad mood. They alway put their 2 cents where is doesn't belong.

Can't Stand:
1 - FMIL & FSIL are heavy smokers...I always end up smelling like an effing ashy tray and it seeps down to FH's apt....the bedroom in Particular

2 - FSIL has her own family but comes over everyday morning and night to smoke 2 packs in each sitting.

3 - It's like a freeway over there with people in and out all the time (can't stand and love it depends on the day)

LOVE:
1 - That they're so open with each other, energetic, loud, and informal. In my family everything is so formal and stuffy all the time.

3 - They're probably the most welcoming and giving peole I've ever met.

FFIL is a thinker and a planner.. it used to drive me crazy!! LOL but now I am happy he is!

FIL's rely on FH way too much. They have two other sons (1 older and 1 younger) who still live at home and don't help out at all, and they still get on FH.

FFIL often puts on an air about him that kind of belittles me, I feel. Like whatever I like is stupid.

FILs have yet to get over the fact that FH used to be a big troublemaker when he was younger (we're talking jail time, drugs, etc.). He has completely changed and made something of himself yet the whole family still treats him like the black sheep. It drives me crazy b/c he has a cousin who is WAY worse than he ever was, yet no one says a thing!

I really don't have anything bad to say either. . .I mean, I guess sometimes I wish FH's family got a long better (he still argues with his brother), but that isn't really FFIL or FMILs fault. I always say that I'm really lucky that I'm marrying into a family like his.

My favorite thing about his family is that they all really like to hang out together. . we can go over his parents house and just have a few beers or wine with his parents, and I really do enjoy it just as much as a night out with friends

Tonight I'm going out to dinner with FMIL, FH's Aunt and FH's Cousin (Mseed) I love hanging out with his family.

FIL is a .. well a jacka$$. We get along but he's just very annoying, does stupid things. He talks down to DH and yells at him all the time. It was worse before me but since I came into the picture, they have been better together.

FMIL passed away before I met her but from what i've heard she was the most loving person.

DH's extended family (moms side) is awesome! His family and mine get along great!! We are not close with his dad's side. We dont see them or talk to them.

I think I'm really lucky to have such great FILs. My only really negatives are that FFIL works Monday through Saturday so all family functions have to be on Sunday, not that it's a bad thing, but it gets annoying when things run late. FMIL is also negative in ways such as if FH and I buy something that she thinks is a waste of money, she has to open her mouth. There are plenty of things she buys that I think are a waste!

i'm very fortunate to wonderful ILs. they are the most generous people i know. MIL bought us our complete set of formal china for my shower, even pieces we didn't register for because she felt it was just nice to have. she also took us shopping after the wedding to complete our registry - she let us buy nearly everything that was left over. she's crazy like that, but that's a great thing for us

i guess if i had one complaint, it would that they're a little too pushy about where we should buy a house. all we ever hear is not to look too far. massapequa is one area we are considering, and MIL always complains that that's way too far for her to drive. that's not bad for my only IL complaint.

FH's parents are both deceased. His mom passed last year and I was lucky enough to have met her. I wouldn't change one thing about her. She was an amazing woman and she always took my side!!!

But, FSIL..........she's mother hen. It's annoying but I know that she's just being nice. I think she thinks that we can't take care of ourselves!! And what really gets me is I can tell FH one way and he'll disagree but, when his sister says one way, he agrees. Totally infuriates me.

The one thing I hate about FH's family is how they treat FH in comparison to his siblings. FBIL is like GOD and he can do no wrong. They ask like he is simply the golden child. So much so that I'm afraid our wedding is going to be about HIS best man speech. FSIL is the only girl and the baby of a very Italian famiy - you figure it out. She is a brat. If you don't agree with her - she yells and screams. FBIL always sticks up for her which makes it worse.


I love FH's family because (minus the 2 above) they are genuinely nice, good people. I teased FH when we first started that it's the Italian version of the Brady Bunch. Traditions have held up thru the years. Its just nice to have huge gatherings and see how they all care for each other. My kids are truly blessed being born into this family.

MIL is always in our buisness and treats MY dh like her own. I cannot stand her and it's worse because I live with her. I hate how she doesn't know how to manage her money. I hate that she refuses to get a job where she could put money away with Social Security (she has worked off the books since dh is 8).

The only thing I like about her is that she allows us to live with her. Otherwise, I wish she didn't exist.

FIL is another story. I LOVE him. There is nothing about him I don't like. In Laws are divorced, so it's hard to show FIL how much I like him in front of MIL.

DH's parents are deceased but I get along really well this his mothers side of the family and his step mother. The only person I have a problem with is DH's grandfather from his fathers side. He's so selfish and decided to steal the money DH's grandmother put aside for him and then had that money taxed to his grandson (DH) When DH confronted him and told him to pay he said he did it because DH's father didnt leave him any money when he passed and he didnt have the money to pay the taxes on it (Cause he just bought a 2007 Cadillac) Luckily we worked it out with the IRS. And his grandfather instead of apologizing dropped off all of DH's baby pics basically saying hes washing his hands of his grandson. Way to treat someone who lost his parents.
Also his uncle from his fathers side doesnt call him. We decided it wasnt worth it to even send an invite his way. I dont understand his fathers side of the family.

Luckily everyone else in his life are angels.

Oh and I just remembered we sent his grandfather a wedding invite and he never responded. He said it was a spit in his face because we didnt put GRANDPA on it.

<3 FMIL to death but she is lazy - it drives me nuts. Doesnt clean - I have complete OCD so I dont get it. And she doesnt drive - its a major pain in the butt since we all have to drive her places all the time

and how could I forget a-hole FFIL decided to go out and have an affair and leave FMIL 2 months before the wedding and devestate everyone. Did I say A$$SHOLE

My FILs are extremely generous and fun to be around.

My FMIL is very controlling. Luckily, I'm not her daughter so it hasn't effected my life THAT much. However, I see her sometimes become overbearing with FH (particularly about his health b/c diabetes runs in the family). Also, the one time it effected me was when she basically let us have no say in our rehearsal diner. Then she had friends tell her that the kids are supposed to have a say. Then she tried to include us but I was so turned off I would've just agreed to any place just to end the fiasco.
