Re: Engagment party

I was stressed about the same thing! My FMIL really wanted us to register but the fact of the matter is things get discontinued pretty quickly so the closer you register to the wedding the better. My parents asked us where we planned on registering so if people asked and wanted to give something other than cash they got us giftcards. It turned out just fine and no hurt feelings.

Re: Engagment party

DEFINITELY REGISTER!!! Trust me...people are going to ask your mom 'Where are they registered?' Yes, money of course would be nice, but most people will buy you gifts...and do you want tacky gifts or something that is your style and taste? You don't have to write on your eparty invitation that you are registered anywhere...anyone who wants to give you a gift will ask where you are registered (not one person at our party came w/o a gift).

On a side note...I just replied to someone else about registries. Register at Tiffanys!!! Obviously don't put ridiculously expensive items on there, but things that are between 50 and 200 dollars. You just never know when two or three people will splurge on you! I got three gifts from there so far!!!

Re: Engagment party

you can I know some people on here did. I didnt mainly b/c our engagement party was only like 5 months after we were engaged so we werent even thinkning about that. If people asked our parents what we wanted they told them we would rather have money. Some people gave us gifts to which was fine

Re: Engagment party

We only had 3 out of 35 people give us money. And I knew that would happen...which is why I registered.
I am in the same situation as you..FH and I own a small co-op that doesn't have room for additional items, but like I said...you don't want stuff that is tacky. I would register for things that you can use for the wedding, like champagne flutes, cake and knife server, picture frames...maybe a set of nice wine glasses.

Re: Engagment party

DEFF REGISTER! We did! (but we didn't include any info about it on our e-party invites.) We didn't want people to feel obligated to get us anything...but for those people who DID want to get us things and asked my mom or FH's mom - they had a reply of what we needed/wanted and where to get it. Of course we are hoping for money...that would always help.... butttt..... gifts that you want are good too!!!

Re: Engagment party

I did not register for the EP for the same reasons as you. We are not moving out until we are almost married and I did not want to start collecting gifts now. I told people who asked me that when I did register it would be at Macy's, but that I did not plan on registering until after the EP. Most people gave us money, some gave us giftcards and we got maybe 2 gifts. I say if you do not want to register yet, don't! Also, I feel that if people start buying you gifts off the registry now, then what will they do for the shower...buy ANOTHER gift off the registry???

Re: Engagment party

I was unsure as well!! Until the lovely brides to be on LIW helped me out!!!! Thanks ladies!!! I Am going to register for a few things for Eparty. Then i'll probably update the list and add more once we get closer to the wedding. We are fortunate because me and FH have been living together since Nov. so i know a list of things that we need!!!

Re: Engagment party

Register! We did and we got soooo much stuff from our registry I couldn't believe it. I only did a few things and then I will add more when I have my shower. i'm telling you someone suggested this to me and it was the best thing I could have done. Everyone was so generous

Re: Engagment party

I think you should register. But I wouldn't register for a lot, that's if you would rather get money. Maybe register for like 20 things.... or maybe big things Maybe people will then give money. Is that mean? LOL

Re: Engagment party

Our E-party is next weekend and we didn't register...it actually didn't even cross our mind...until my FMIL asked me that one of the guests had asked her where we registered.

To be honest I associated registering with bridal shower....may be I'm wrong.

Too late now.....I know that most of our guests will be giving us money...which always come in handy

Re: Engagment party

Sometimes i wish i still lived in NY for the gifts! lol

we registered bc my mom asked us too.. we didnt include anything on our invites and only my immidiate family got us gifts, we got a few gift cards from friends, thats all. The registry is great for future gifts all year though, like christmas, etc. And we also registered at places like Macys... its been 2 months and i already have $50 in my macys rewards program (when people buy us stuff or i buy things with my CC I earn money back!) nice rewards for a long engagement so its worth it even for that, cant hurt!
