Re: Lots of Qs for girls who have been to Sandals St Lucia!!
Lots of answers for you ....lolFirst and foremost I absolutely hated the shuttle. I got car sick (which never happens) They drive very fast down there and the roads are very windy but you do get to see the entire Island. I believe it was about 4 couples per van...not so so bad but Just try to get the first seat if you can. I mean it's doable just annoying.
Excursions- I highly recommend the zip line. It was a lot of fun and I would do it again in a heart beat.
Dinner on the beach- We actually booked ours for Tuesday and then my friend surprised us with another on Friday. I say book closer to your departure. I think it's more relaxing
Spa- We got massages. They were excellent. We ended up doing the champagne celebration couples massages. It was very nice,
You do not need any reservations for restaurants at the Grande unless you choose to go to Gordons which is the only restaurant that you have to pay for. AT the regency I believe youneed reservations for La Toc and Kimono. Not sure when you have to book. We didn't go to the other resorts but we did plan on it just never got around to it. Josephines waffles and crepes are to die for. You must go there,
Hope this helped and have an amazing time!!!!!!!

We leave for our honeymoon on Monday and I want to make sure I do everything I can to have the best time. Any advice for those of us going?
We are staying at the Grande, but this will prob be helpful to other people too
1. Restaurants
when do we make reservations? YOU NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR LA TOC AND KIMONOS WHICH ARE AT THE REGENCY. DO IT YOUR FIRST HOUR THERE.....WE WERE THE ONLY COUPLE OUT OF THE FEW WE BECAME FRIENDS WITH THAT GOT A RESERVATION AT KIMONOS!
should we make them now, or wait until we get there? YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL YOU GET THERE...CAN'T DO IT OVER THE PHONE.
we have a concierge level room -- do they help us with reservations? THEY DO IT IN THE SENSE THAT YOU GO TO THEM, THEY TELL YOU WHAT IS AVAILABLE AND YOU CHOOSE A TIME. THEY PENCIL YOU IN AND CALL FOR YOU. THEY STILL GIVE ONLY WHAT'S AVAILABLE. WE WERE THERE 8 DAYS AND WE WENT ON THE FIRST NIGHT BECAUSE I HEARD THEY BOOK UP AND WE GOT THE LAST SPOT, A WHOLE WEEK LATER, AT KIMONO'S.
is it hard to get reservations to certain restaurants? SEE ABOVE LOL
any places have bad food? LA TOC AT THE REGENCY WAS OK...NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT. THE MAHI MAHI WAS VERY DRY. THE APPETIZERS AND SALADS WERE VERY GOOD THOUGH.
JOSEPHINE'S AT GRANDE HAD THE BEST CREPES....TRY THE CHOCOLATE CREPE....MMM, I'D DO ANYTHING FOR ONE RIGHT NOW! THEIR INDIVIDUAL PIZZAS WERE PRETTY GOOD TOO. BAREFOOT BY THE SEA WAS GREAT FOR DINNER, NOT SO MUCH FOR LUNCH. WE HAD THE NACHOS AND A CHICKEN SANDWICH FOR LUNCH AND THE SANDWICH WAS SO DRY. BAYSIDE IS BUFFET-STYLE AND HAS SUPRISINGLY DELICIOUS FOOD! THEIR JERK CHICKEN IS BBQ'D RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AND OH SO GOOD...OH, DURING LUNCH THEY HAVE A PANINI STATION....DON'T PASS IT UP! TOSCANINI'S WAS GOOD TOO...THEIR ANTIPASTO BAR WAS AMAZING....THEIR PASTA, WELL NOT HOMEMADE ITALIAN QUALITY, BUT BETTER THAN THE OLIVE GARDEN. LOL KIMONO'S AT REGENCY WAS FUN, JUST NOT AUTHENTIC JAPANESE FOOD. IF YOU LOVE JAPENESE LIKE ME, YOUR PALATE WILL BE CONFUSED LOL THE PIER AT HALCYON WAS AMAZING!!!!
is it a hassle to eat at the other resorts? NOT AT ALL! THE SHUTTLE COMES EVERY HOUR AND THE RIDE FROM THE GRANDE TO HALCYON (YOU HAVE TO EAT AT THE PIER...NO RESERVATIONS REQUIRED....SOOOO GOOD! WE HEARD MARIO'S WAS GREAT (ITALIAN AT THE HALCYON) BUT WENT ON A NIGHT THEY WERE CLOSED.....OH, READ YOUR BOOKLET IN YOUR ROOM TO FIND OUT WHAT THE DAYS/HOURS OF BUSINESS ARE! LOL) IS ABOUT 10 MINUTES AWAY AND THE REGENCY ABOUT 25. IT'S FUN TO SEE THE TOWN.
2. Excursions
Did you do any? which ones? WE DID THE MOUNTAIN HIKE THAT THE CONCIERGE SET UP AND SOME WATER THINGS. WE DID A CRUISE AROUND THE ISLAND TOO....ALL LOTS OF FUN. WE DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE WE WEREN'T INTERESTED IN THEM SINCE WE JUST WANTED TO LOUNGE AND BE LAZY LOL YOU HAD TO BE UP EARLY FOR A LOT OF THEM.
how much were they? THEY RANGE FROM $25-$300.00.
how far in advance did you book them? YOU CAN BOOK THEM WHENEVER. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, THEY'LL TAKE YOU OUT EVEN IF THE WEATHER IS IFFY....WE WERE GOING TO DO THE MIDNIGHT CRUISE, BUT SAW THE CLOUDS AND SAID NO WAY. THE PEOPLE WE KNEW WENT ON IT, IT STARTED TO STORM REALLY BAD WHEN THEY WERE OUT ON THE OCEAN. THEY ALL CAME BACK THROWING UP AND SO SICK.
wEre they worth it? THE ONES WE DID WERE.
do you think they are necessary? WE DIDN'T DO MANY AND WE WERE VERY HAPPY JUST ON THE BEACH. SOME THINGS WERE WAY TOO PRICEY FOR THE SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THAT YOU DID THEM OR THEY LASTED ALL DAY AND WERE FAR FROM THE RESORT. I WANTED AS LITTLE TIME ON THOSE CRAZY ROADS AS POSSIBLE. FOR US, WE DIDN'T FEEL THEY WERE NECESSARY AT ALL.
3. Extras
I want to do a candlelit dinner on the beach with FH -- which night would you recommend? JUST SO YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT JUST YOU AND DH ON THE BEACH...THEY SET UP TABLES FOR TWO JUST FEET APART FROM THE OTHER COUPLES. YOU CAN EAT AT A FEW OUTDOOR PLACES AND GET THE SAME THING REALLY.
also, did you do any spa things? any other extras? what was worth it? WE DIDN'T....WE JUST DIDN'T WANT TO.
4. Ride to the resort
we're planning on taking the shuttle they provide. is it bad? is it crowded? do you get a good view of the island? I'M NOT GOING TO SUGAR COAT THIS AT ALL, THE RIDE IS HORRIBLE. IT'S 1 1/2 HOURS LONG (WITHOUT TRAFFIC), THE ROADS ARE TINY AND THEY DRIVE LIKE MANIACS. DO NOT TAKE PUBLIC TAXIS....ONE FLIPPED OFF THE MOUNTAINSIDE WHILE WE WERE THERE (WITH A NW COUPLE FROM REGENCY!!!). IF YOU GET MOTION SICKNESS, TAKE DRAMAMINE! WE WERE ALL SICK BY THE TIME WE GOT OUT. HOWEVER, THE SHUTTLE TO AND FROM THE OTHE RESORTS ISN'T BAD AT ALL...THE RIDE IS SO MUCH SHORTER. THERE ARE FOUR OTHER COUPLES ON WITH YOU......YOU GET TO SEE MOST OF THE ISLAND SINCE YOU ARE LITERALLY DRIVING ACROSS IT.
5. Activities
what did you do for fun? did they have events or shows? did you do the water sports? WE DID THE WATER SPORTS (SOME) AND HUNG ON THE BEACH. THEY HAVE A BAND EACH NIGHT IN THE LOBBY WHICH IS NICE. THE POOL HALL AND OLD LONDON PUB ARE THE TWO HOT SPOTS AFTER 10PM.
6. Packing essentials
anything to make sure to bring? BATHING SUITS, COMFY SHORTS, SNEAKERS, A CAMERA AND A FEW DRESSY OUTFITS. NO NEED TO OVERPACE...YOU ARE IN A BATHING SUIT 95% OF THE TIME!
TYIA!!!!!!!!
I have TONS of answers for you LOL I wrote in CAPS next to your questions above to make it easier LOL HTH

Re: Lots of Qs for girls who have been to Sandals St Lucia!!
1. We at every restaurant at the Regency. We didnt go to any other resort. We loved each restaurant.2. We only did the bike riding in the rain forest tour. They said its not strenuous but it was hard, plus it was hot. There were hills you had to bike ride up, but if you wanted to stop you could just go in the van. At the end you go into the waterfalls (not that big but it felt great). The ride there from the Regency was about 45 minutes.
3. We did the candlelight dinner in the gazebo (choice of gazebos or beach). The gazebo was higher up and we looked out at the beach. Pricey but very romantic. We loved the food (steak). We didnt do any spa activities.
4. The ride to the resort.... AWFUL!!!!! Not sugar coating it. The roads are windy and they drive like maniacs, worse than NYC taxi drivers ( I wrote a Sandals review). You do get nice views and the taxi driver told us about the island. Its a small van that takes you, we were with another couple. I would say you could fit like 6 ppl in the van. On the way back we had our butler upgrade us and get us a private car. Still felt sick but the driver was better (he worked at Sandals).
5. Since I didnt want to leave the resort, we layed by the pool and beach everyday. They have fun activities going on that you can participate in (bingo by the pool, beach volleyball, water balloon toss, etc). We did some and some we watched. The regency had some water sports, but I heard the Grande has more since its a better beach. We had butler service so anytime we were hungry and didnt want to move from the chairs we called the butler on the cell (they give it to you) and they brought it to wherever we were. We loved that.
6. BUG SPRAY!!! At night I got eaten alive. Plenty of sunscreen. I used 30 everyday and didnt burn just tanned nicely. You dont need towels, they provide them by the pool. Just bring your daily essentials. Make sure you bring a coverup for your bathing suit. They dont let you into the restaurants in just the suit and guys have to have shoes on.
Have fun and take lots of pictures!!!! Everyone at the Regency were soooo nice, not like here. We would def. go back.
FYI-Travel Tom said not to book excursions before you get there. You dont know how you will be feeling or what you want to do each day before you get there. The restaurants I suggest making reservations in advance (our butler did this for us).

Re: Lots of Qs for girls who have been to Sandals St Lucia!!
1. Restaurantswhen do we make reservations? You make them when you get there. We had a butler so they did it for them, not sure how it works. La Toc at the Regencry was amazing. Gordons, at the Grande, is pretty good, but you have to pay for it if you don't have butler service - I would not have paid for it, it was similar to La Toc, though I like La Toc better. Kimonos at the Regency is a hibachi restuarant and it's pretty good. You sit with like 4 or 5 other couples, it was a lot of fun.
2. Excursions
I would recommend booking them the day before you want to go. If you cancel less that 24hrs they charge you. It didn't seem like the booked up. We did the rainforest treetop and the Soufriere adventure cruise - which takes you down the whole coast of the island on a catamaran.
3. Extras
We didn't do the candlight dinner, but from what I saw, it didn't seem worth it. You're not alone on the beach, and it's the same food you get at the other places - though if it's something you want, it's definitly a cool spot to eat. The gazebo dinner seemed more private if that's what youre going for.
4. Ride to the resort
Ok, I'm in the minority here, I didn't think it was THAT bad. I normally get car sick, so I was worried, but I felt fine. It is a little scary because people are always passing, but you'll be fine.
At the airport, if someone asks you 'sandals?' and wants to carry your bags, just say now, once you go tthrough the doors it's right there, you'll see what I mean when you get there.
5. Activities
The water sports are cool, the Grande seemed to have a decent amount to do. I thought we were going to do a lot because we're very active people, but we spent most of our time swimming and drinking :)
6. Packing essentials
SUNBLOCK. We brought 3 things of sunscreen and ran out! It's very expensive at the store. Bug spray - some people say they had a problem with bugs, we didn't get bit at all, but it's good to have. They give you aloe in the room :) Make sure you have sneakers, some excursions require them and I kinda wish I had a hat too. Make sure your FH has pants for the 'formal' restaurants.
Enjoy each other and have fun!!!

We didn't go anywhere that needed reservations but I would make them that first day when you get there. The concierge will help you. We tried to sneak in on a reservation at Kimono's but it didn't work - OOPS don't try that LOL! The BEST food ever was this little BBQ place right on the sand. We ate there every single day for lunch and LOVED it. The Buffet is amazing too, we ate there for breakfast and dinner. Don't waste your time in the Italian restaurant - being from NY with REAL italian food. . .it was a joke!
2. Excursions
Did you do any? which ones? how much were they? how far in advance did you book them? wre they worth it? do you think they are necessary?
We just relaxed. We did do the walking tour with the concierge - I highly recommend it!!! ( it is included )
3. Extras
I want to do a candlelit dinner on the beach with FH -- which night would you recommend? also, did you do any spa things? any other extras? what was worth it?
The candlelit dinner was my FAVORITE dinner there. We scheduled it for our tenth dating anniversary. BUT some people complained about the food - we upgraded and got the surf and turf and it was definitely worth it!
We also got a couples massage which I HIGHLY recommend - I wish I had scheduled more treatments!
4. Ride to the resort
we're planning on taking the shuttle they provide. is it bad? is it crowded? do you get a good view of the island?
The shuttle is horrible. period. You get a good view of the island - which unfortunately is a view right into poverty. I was in tears halfway there. Sorry, but I am telling the truth. it is beautiful and green - but there are some sad sights along the way too. IT IS A ROUGH RIDE! I actually dreaded the ride back but THAT one was fine they actually put us in a decent sized bus and we had extra room too!
5. Activities
We jetskiid two days - that was amazing you can go out SO FAR and see amazing things, get a waterproof disposable camera! We laid on the beach, went in the pool, ATE A LOT, DRANK A LOT.
6. Packing essentials
SPF! definitely. You can dress as casual as you like so dont go nuts with the outfits. There is really no nightlife to go all out for. Sneakers if you want to do the walking tour. . .
HTH!

Re: Lots of Qs for girls who have been to Sandals St Lucia!!
Hey girl! I stayed at the Grande too! Here are my answers:
We leave for our honeymoon on Monday and I want to make sure I do everything I can to have the best time. Any advice for those of us going?
We are staying at the Grande, but this will prob be helpful to other people too
1. Restaurants
We did not have to make any reservations and never had a wait anywhere. I give the food an A+. We did eat at the Italian place at the Regency - which was nice and had a gorgeous view! Also ate at the Pier at the Halycon which was nice...but definitely dressier and the staff was alittle stuffy.
2. Excursions
I did alot and they were all fabulous!
- Exodus Boat Speed Boat Tour (with Vincent - we met him on the beach) - this was my favorite excursion! It was 9-2:30 and we got a tour of the whole island, went to see the volcano, the waterfall, the botanical garden, and ended with snorkeling and fresh fruit! It was amazing and we met so many awesome people! It was intimate - only 6 or 7 couples! SO FUN and I highly recommend it.
- 2 Hour Horseback Riding - so peaceful and serene! We went to a private beach and even went bareback in the water! It was very nice!
- Zipline - we definitely loved this and had a blast. The only downfall is its an hour away and there are only 7 ziplines. I definitely loved it and wouldnt have it any different but just want you to know the details. Def go saturday as opposed to during the week when the cruise ships are in.
- Golf at the Regency - it was a fun 9 hole course. DH is a big golfer and he said it was a decent course for me to learn on so we went!
3. Extras
We didnt do the beach dinner. I heard if you book before you go its MUCH cheaper than if you book when you are there. Anyway we just didnt want to spend the extra money on that...we spent our money on exursions instead. Plus my friend that did it had some rastafarian man sitting 2 feet from her on a lounge chair and staring at her the whole time! Eeek
4. Ride to the resort
DEfinitely nauseating but we survived. Again we didnt want to spend the $200+ each way on helicopter. Just take dramamine and you'll be ok
5. Activities
Every night they have live bands in the lobby which is so fun! Also we went to watch the newlywed show in the club one night and it was hyesterical! We laughed SO hard. Also they have dancers and fire throwers come a few times which is cool.
6. Packing essentials
Sun tan lotion, bathing suit, dresses (many girls dress up every night), colored shirt for DH...thats all I can think of! PASSPORT!
ALSO
If you think your drinks are a bit weak..dont be scared to ask for more rum, more vodka, whatever. Also dont be shy when ordering dinner, you can order more than one meal! (Yes we were fatties on this trip!) LOL! ENJOY!

I have TONS of answers for you LOL I wrote in CAPS next to your questions above to make it easier LOL HTH
wow, thank you so much!!!!! im a little nervous about the ride to the resort...![]()
did you fly from JFK, direct?
Yup, direct from JFK. Sorry to get you nervous, but I don't want to lie about it lol I survived and came back with a smile and you will too! lol

If you plan on doing things every day with DH then I'd bring lots of money. The excursions are per person (for the most part) and that's obviously where Sandals makes their money. Almost all of the excursions are so over-priced and you spend more time in shuttles to get there than you actually spend there.
