I have made it. I don't know how big it was, but I pre-heat the oven at 350 and left it in for 30 minutes. The directions usually says it on the label.

Re: anyone ever make pork loin?

I make it all the time in the winter. Usually put the oven on at 375, and bake/roast for 30-40 min. It really depends on the internal temperature, which needs to reach 160 in the center for it to be done. I will rub it down with an herbs de provence, and it just roasts in the roasting pan, so the fat drips down. We usually eat ours with apple sauce instead of gravy (a little healthier).

Here's a good link too for cooking it: Pork tips

Re: anyone ever make pork loin?

You can also make it on the stovetop if you don't want to turn the oven on, in a braising method.

Season the loin with salt and pepper. Heat a dutch oven or a heavy pot with a lid, add some olive oil and brown the pork well on all sides. Remove it to a plate. In the same pan, brown sliced onions and at the end some chopped garlic. Add the pork back to the pan with any of the juices that have accumulated. Pour in some heated broth (vegetable or chicken, or even plain water) just about halfway up the pork Add any herbs you may like - a bay leaf, fresh thyme, a bit of carrot for sweetness. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan to loosen some of the goodness from the browning process.
Bring the broth to a boil, turn the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the pork is done, about 45 minutes depending upon thickness.

Strain the broth and reduce it a bit if it is too thin, and either use as an 'au jus' or thicken with a roux to make a gravy.

Pork tenderloin (the skinny ones) can also be made this way, just reduce the cook time to about 25 minutes.

Re: anyone ever make pork loin?

I've made mine in the crockpot so I'm not sure how long it goes in the oven. If you can wait to make it for dinner until tomorrow I recommend doing it in the crockpot, it comes out so soft and moist.

should be fine. it will be more moist. I would cook it without a covering of foil on it if you want more of the juices and fat to reduce. you might also be able to broil it (and this would likely follow any of the grilling recipes you've found).

Re: anyone ever make pork loin?

thanks for the suggestions ladies! I could broil it- but Im kinda scared to use my broiler! LOL. I wish I had a grill- but we dont have a balcony to put one on. But everything tastes so good off a grill! bbq-ing it is a good idea, but I think we are out of bbq sauce- but thats def a good idea- bbq and cooking it in a slow cooker! Yum!
