Girls who get motion sick...UPDATE

Okay, so DH and I are flying up to Buffalo tomorrow morning for our friend's wedding. The flight is only 90 minutes! I have NEVER been on a flight that short, and also it never usually matters if I am groggy when I get off the plane b/c I can sleep it out, but tomorrow I can't b/c we are going straight to the church!

I asked my pharmacist what she recommended I take/do. When DH and I flew to St. Kitts for our HM, I took 0.5 Xanax AND a 1/2 Bonine, AND I wore the wristbands, and I still got sick AND was all drugged/groggy til the next morning!!!

I seriously don't know what's worse - getting sick on the plane which may or may not carry over once we get off the plane, or being groggy for the wedding, which may or may not even work against the motion sickness anyway!

GRR! What should I do?????

Re: Girls who get motion sick...

I hate to say this but I find shorter flights worse then longer ones.

Try a non-drowsy dramamine. Eat a bagel before flying and don't read on the plane or look out the window. Focus straight ahead.

That is my advise.

Re: Girls who get motion sick...

When I flew to Rochester I didnt take anything, I just wore the bracelets and for no turbulance lol

I would suggest a non drowsey pill which will hopefully help. Try and rest on the plane. Think about your wedding or your HM to keep your mind occupied. Have DH talk to you.

Hate to say this but you might not even leave tomorrow with the weather, can you leave tonight?

The whole reason we didn't leave tonight is b/c we can't afford a hotel for 2 nights. I have heard that the rain won't really hit here tomorrow til later in the afternoon so I am just praying!

Gotcha. Well I hope the rain holds off for your sake.
Did you get sick on the roads in St. Kitts?

Nope, but then again, those roads are nothing like what I gather the St. Lucia roads are like! I already told DH we can never go there

Just think happy thoughts on the plane lol

Just focus on the seat back infront of you. That is part of it -- keeping focused.

Yeah, tell me about it! I hate even moving my head while I am on a plane! My co-worker was just telling me about Ginger. She told me to go to an Oriental store and see if they sell Ginger candy. I will look into this and let you know how it goes LOL

Marisa, go to a health food store / drug store and get ginger tablets! And take them NOW. Pump your system with them. I heard that they are better for prevention than fixing it. (Ask the health food store worker how much you should take.)

Call around to drug stores, they might have it (CVS, etc). And if you go there and take it, let me know how it works! I am planning on getting some for my bachelorette party - we are going on a one-night cruise out of NYC, which goes into the ocean because there is gambling on the boat .. and I get sick when we go into the ocean ...

Re: Girls who get motion sick...

ginger tonight and no acidic food. definitely have breakfast. if you can avoid coffee its a big plus! 1/2 dramamine tonight and 1/2 inthe morning...if possible see if anyone you know has the patch for motion sickness..its prescribed and you put it behind your ear works great! If you do get one put it on tonight and dont take it off for 48 hours...which is good because you will be home!

I actually work at a pharmaceutical advertising agency. Our client, Novartis has an RX medication that DOES NOT make you drowsy. It's called Transderm Scop. The web site has a $5 rebate right now too. Check it out http://www.trandsermscop.com

PS I work on this account Hee hee! I don't make a dime off promoting it to you, it just seems like a good product.

Re: Girls who get motion sick...

i get sick all the time, when we went on a cruise our waitress said to eat green apples, I swore it worked. we had bad weather and the boat was rocking back and forth.

I take dramamine before I go on the plane. Maybe chewing gum and also drinking a lot of water might help.

Re: Girls who get motion sick...UPDATE

I did eat breakfast in the morning, I had a bagel w/ light butter and coffee (I had to drink coffee - I would go thru caffeine withdrawl otherwise LOL). I took a 0.5 Xanax and wore the wristbands. I had also purchased from Trader Joe's Ginger candy and a small package of Ginger Snap cookies that I took with me.

I was fine the entire flight til the last like 5 mins, when I got sick The good news is, as soon as I was off the plane, I felt fine! The ginger candy is THE most disgusting thing I have ever tasted LOL! It was literally SPICY and I don't do 'spice' The Ginger snaps were okay but by the time I felt myself getting sick, it was too late.

Coming home yesterday, I took the same meds and wore the wristbands, and again I ate a bagel and coffee and I was fine!!!!!!... well, fine in the fact that I didn't physically get sick, but I still didn't feel 100%.

I truly am going to look into the patch for behind the ear, b/c I can't take this anymore! Thanks for all your help and advice, girls!
