Speaking of Everyday dishes...
Do you guys think its really necessary to go with Fine China??? FH and I are not sure if we really will use it. I mean, I know that everyone gets it for their wedding and its probably the only time I will get that type of gift in my life. I just don't know if I really want it. I was thinking I would just register for 12 settings of my every day dishes in case we want to entertain....

I keep going back and forth on that too! Only bc we don't live together now so we need soooo much other stuff and I don't know if it's worth it to 'waste' some of our gifts on something we'll hardly ever use.But then I think that maybe when I'm older I'll regret not getting it.... ahh I'm no help.

I'm not doing fine china because I have a feeling I wouldn't use it because I would be afraid of breaking it. I am a klutz
. IMO I don't think it's necessary.

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
FH and I decided to do it because we have a really big family and we know we're going to be in charge of at least one holiday dinner pretty soon. Its up to you! But part of me thinks they're right that you arent going to want to spend 700 on glassware once you have kids...

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
I think most people use fine china uring the holidays. I did not register for it because I am going to store it all year and inly use it a few times. Why would I waste my money on that when I could use it for soemthing more practical. If someone buys it for me that is one story but I would rather buy two sets of dishes. One daily set and one set for company.

Yea, FH and I do live together, but we have NOTHING nice. When we moved in together we just went to Wal-Mart and got cheap stuff and hand-me downs from our parents. Once we get married and move into a real home (instead of a shoebox sized apt in Manhattan) I am going to want all new and nice things and I would prefer people spend the money on gifts that we will use. The china is pretty and all, but my mom's only really comes out on Christmas and Thanksgiving. One year we all decided we'd rather eat off paper plates than mom's fine china anyway!!!

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
It all depends on the type of person you are. Me & FH love to entertain & cook & for us serving great food on beautiful china is the best. I couldnt imagine it any other way. But if its not fo ryou thats totally fine. You have todo what you want.My everday is Kona by Noritake. Veru everday loking. But they make everday china that can double as fine. Choose something like that possibly???

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
I didn't register for it, but my Mom has 3 full sets (hers and gparents sets). So she said I could def have a set when I was ready. Our problem was we know we aren't going to use right away, and it would just sit in boxes, etc.

I don't know if I want and/or really need fine china...FH will probably want it for parties, because he has the big family. I have a small family who could care less. I feel I'd much rather get the Pottery Barn Reindeer collection for the holidays anyways, because I'm just a little kitschy like that!

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
I wasn't going to register for it myself because I feel the same way but my mom's friend bought us four place sets of a Lennox china so I am going to put the extra settings that I need on the registry because I would rather not buy them myself!

FH and I were thinking the same thing - he's like when are we really gonna use china and how often - he is dead set against not getting it. So I think we're gonna register for 12 everyday settings like you said. Now to just pick a pattern.....

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
we registered for everyday china at BBB and then we registered for a plain white set from Crate&Barrel - the C&B set is not 'fine' china but its a plain, traditional set that we can dress up and use for when we have companyto me, fina china is a waste - even if we were to use it for a holiday there wouldnt be enough place settings since there are always more than 12 people that come over for dinner - so for us 'fine china' didnt seem practical - we rather people spend money on things that we woud get more use out of....

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
We're definitely not doing fine china. First of all, we are SUCH klutzes! Second of all, anyone that I know that got it when they got married told me what a waste it was cuz they never use it! Go for a really great set of dishes and you'll be able to enjoy them all the time

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
I didn't want to register for fine china, but ended up doing so on a whim. This all depends on you and your personalities and entertaining needs. For us, we initially didn't want it and were good with going with a good set of everyday dishes. However, looking back we're glad that we did it because china is expensive and we never would've really bought on our own and it's nice to be able to be full on adults sometimes and have people or family over and serve on really nice china.

Re: Speaking of Everyday dishes...
Originally we had gone for everyday fine china on top of our regular china but then i realized for the price and how bored I get it wasnt worth it.So we decided to stick with our fancy china and then just registered for plain old regular dinnerware.
We have both.

I did register for it as of now but I'm still debating. my sister got her entire set when she got married, 4 years ago, and she hasn't even opened the box!!! I'm not sure it's worth it either.Welcome New Vendors
