For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

After all is said and done...did you make money on your wedding? Or cover a certain percentage ??

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

I definitely did NOT make back what i spent, BUT at the same time i never expected to get back what i spent on the wedding. Its one thing for ppl to think MAYBE they'll make back what they paid for RH, but if they are trying to make back the money they paid for the wedding as a whole then that is not realistic.

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

My wedding wasn't a job so we didn't 'make money'. I apologize, but I hate, hate, hate the commercialization (if that's a word) of marriage and people focusing on making money.

We did receive gifts in excess of what we spent on the RH, but not more than what we spent overall. We spent what we could afford without considering what we would receive in gifts, so we weren't left in debt or stressed about money after.

its possible but i do know many situations where they didnt even make back what they paid for RH. If you dont have any wedding debt after the wedding then think of it as anything you do make it will be pretty good ya know. Its hard to ever say, some will make it back, others wont. Just dont expect anything bc thats the only time you will be disappointed.

nope--we only got back 1/3 of what we paid for the wedding---didn't care at all. i knew we'd never even break even...we had the wedding for ourselves and family not to raise moolah

We received about 1/3 of what we spent . Going into it we knew we were not doing it to make money so it worked out for us.

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

I haven't gotten married yet but our RH alone will likely go over 45K for the size of our wedding so I am by no means expecting our gifts to amount to that. Anything we get will of course be immensely appreciated but I am making cuts in other places and this spurgle is my choice and I would not expect it to fall on anyone but me.

I didn't even make that back...we got stiffed alot but you have to expect it going into this thing!

You can't think this is a money making venture- you're throwing a party...the gift is a gesture. DO NOT put money into this thing thinking that you're gonna get the same out!

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

Not counting the gifts from our parents, no we did not make back the money we paid. We made back a little less than half, I think. I don't even remember anymore how much we made.

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

im not expecting to even make our RH money back....that would be over 20K and to get over 20K in gifts is insane to me, i cant even imagine getting that much money in gifts i dont know, maybe i have a cheap family but i dont see us coming close to that number...

we aren't getting married to make money back or to break even on anything....if we wanted to make money we would have had a totally different type of wedding - but we went all out because we want too....

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

I know we won't make back everything. We are pretty much putting all the money up. Whatever we get back in $$ or gifts is just fine. We aren't getting anything for the wedding that we can't pay for ourselves. My mom said she'd help us out on certain things but I'm not relying on her or anyone else.

thats what i hear people say, and i know how much my FSIL made - and it was a lot - more than 20K.....but im not sure my family is THAT generous i don't know, i could be surprised....but im not expecting anything crazy from anybody - i know my FH's family is generous but my side is different, and they havent been to a wedding in ages, im the first out of all the 'kids' which is funny b/c im one of the younger ones but i dont care, i just want it to be a good time....oif we get that much i will be a very happy camper - if not i wont be disappointed.....i just cant wait - 55 more days!

Re: For those couples who Paid For their Wedding Themselves?

I dont believe we will break even...even with my parents paying for most of the RH. But we didnt go into it thinking we would. Our only concern is paying cash for everything so we dont go into debt...or have to use the gifts we do receive to pay things off. I think these days...it's nearly impossible to break even when you consider all the random expenses.

Funny...mid typing this...my landscaper stopped by and started telling me not to spend money on the wedding! : )
