French, anyone?

I was so wrapped up in my preliminary design of my invite that I forgot an important part...I need them in French too! My FH has French speaking family in Canada that don't speak any English!

Does anyone know French? I'll need to translate my invites.

I did this online...I wonder if it is correct:

Comment bel est le jour qui est touché par l'amour. Nous, Lisa Marie Rotermund et James Michael Sullivan vous invitons à partager avec nous notre célébration d'amour comme nous échangeons des vœux de mariage vendredi, le dix-sept juillet deux mille et neuf à sept heures du soir.

How beautiful is the day that is touched by love. We, Lisa Marie Rotermund and James Michael Sullivan invite you to share with us our celebration of love as we exchange wedding vows Friday the seventeenth of July two thousand and nine at seven o'clock in the evening.

Re: French, anyone?

I took French for 6 years but I'm still SHOCKED I remembered enough of it to be able to understand that before reading the translation!

It looks good to me but I am faaaar from being fluent so I'm no help.

Re: French, anyone?

It looks good for the most part, but this part is what concerns me:

à partager avec nous notre célébration d'amour

It's a literal word for word translation of 'to share with us our celebration of love', as the verbs, nouns, etc would flow in English. French does not have the same syntax as English, so I would be leary of this line. I'm really trying to remember here, but I feel that the 'nous' should be before the partager and that there does not need to be an avec.

I wish I could help more, but I guess this is why I only minored in French, not majored.

Re: French, anyone?

Maybe i shouldn't translate my invitations...maybe I should just keep the french ones really simple.

I would say:
'Quel beau jour, lequel est touché par l'amour. Nous, Lisa.....et James...., vous invitons à partager avec nous notre celebration d'amour en échangeant nos voeux de noces le vendredi dix sept juillet deux mille neuf à sept heure du soir.'

I just changed the first sentence, and I got the middle from the other bride.

I think the translation is literal. As in it may not flow in a Canadian French dialect. However, they will get the gist and they will appreciate the translation. Also can FH help you with this?? Does he speak fluent french?

Re: French, anyone?

My MOH is fluent in French, English and Russian. She speaks all three like a native. If you need any help let me know and I can ask her. Although she does tend to take a few days to respond because she lives in Paris and travels for work all the time.
