?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

I am looking over our honeymoon cruise and it says Evening Wear is required for 2 nights. What type of evening wear is worn on a cruise? A cocktail dress? An actual evening gown?

Also, what type of attire would you recommend I need for a 10 day cruise?

TIA!

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

The cruise we went on had a formal night, I wore a tea length dress, and a semi formal night. Honestly though, I wore a dress almost every night, many women did. A lot of people dress nice in general, which I think is great!

Some people wear floor length gowns but you will be ok with a tea length dress. People wear both.

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

The formal nights are usually evening gown, but semi formals are just cocktail dresses. Getting dressed for dinner is always the best part

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

Oh cocktail dress is more then good for the formal dinner. Its captains night when you meet the captain of the ship. Most people are in cocktail dresses and then the rest range from very casual to long/formal dresses. About 90% will be in the nice cocktail dress you would wear as a guest to a wedding. Thats what I have always worn and I've never been over dressed. The men wear suits

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

I usually wear a longer dress and FH wears a suit... And I agree, dressing up for dinner is one of the fun parts of a cruise IMO ...

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

on norwegian, how dressed up you got for dinner depended on where you were going to eat. in the main dining room, people dressed they way you'd expect them to on a saturday night at a nice restaurant. there was a designated formal night, and people looked like they might for a wedding--cocktail dresses and suits. i brought a ton of summery skirts and blouses and i was fine. in that sitation, a skirt and a tank top or sundress were good for all the stuff we did on the island, but if i wanted to dress it up i'd put on nicer shoes, wear a shawl, or change into a more formal top.

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

FH and I tend to do wash on a 7 week + cruise... yes, we do laundry on vacation.... its nice to pack half the crap that you're gonna need

Basically when you're on a cruise, if you're big beach people, you will wear mostly your bikinis and cover-ups for most of the day and your more dressy clothes for dinner and shows at night... Personally, I bring too many shorts and tanks that i never end up wearing

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

For evening wear I saw people ranging from floor length gowns to simple little black dresses. Use your judgement. If you'd wear it to a nightime wedding, I'd say its ok to wear to those formal nights.

As for every day wear, I packed so much which I didnt even wear. Depending on the weather forcast for where you will be traveling to, you might just be able to get away with wearing just a bathing suit with cover up and flip flops or sundresses and shorts for the daytime. Thats pretty much what I wore around in the day times.

Enjoy!

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

On formal night my FH would wear a suite and I would wear a long gown. I agree part of the fun on formal night is getting dressed up and taking pics!!! The pic in my profile is from formal night on one of the cruises we went on.

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

'formal nights' on cruises are not mandatory-just so you know. i have been on 3 cruises and each time we only attend 1 out of the 2 formal nights and wore 'nice' clothes. some people rent tuxedos on the cruise and wear very formal evening gowns, but that is out of control!

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

FH is so not excited to wear a suit on our HM, although i'm excited to get dressed up! On the formal nights, it can range from cocktail dresses to elaborate ball gowns, it's really whatever you want! You can also avoid it all together by dining in one of the casual restaurants or ordering room service on formal nights!

Re: ?s for Anyone who has been on a cruise

You could get a super dressy cocktail dress or a floor legnth gown- I see people in both on cruises.
