Looking for a pug....
Can any of you gals tell me of a good reputable breeder for pugs here on Long Island? My brother is looking to buy one, but the stores are asking $1200-$1600. Any info you an give me would be greatly appreciated....

Re: Looking for a pug....
check the american kennel club list of breeders. Its best if the breeder is AKC registered. Here is the website. Also, just know that breeders will charge about the same. Some breeders will even charge more. I have been looking for a maltese, and most breeders sell them for $2k-3k. The lowest prices on some breeders sites are about $1500.
Here is the website

DH and I have a pug, but we honestly fell in love with her when we passed a pet shop window. Good luck, they are the best dogs! :)

Nooooo... you definitely do NOT want to get a dog from a pet store.. while a small handful are healthy, most of them will cost you a lot of money with the vet from the diseases they contract while being penned with other sick dogs

i def. agree. Go with a breeder who has a good rep and is registered with the AKC at the least. When dogs aren't socialized properly from birth it can cause a lot of behavioral issues later on in life that you may think are just cute puppy quirks at the time. And Many pet store dogs are known to have many health issues due to the way they are handled, bred, raised or treated..etc. And although some pet stores look clean and great...they still sometimes get their dogs from puppy mills

not all pet stores do i'm sure... and i am in no way putting anyone down for their choice of where to get a pet...but adoption or reputable breeders who know what they are doing are your best bet!!!!
there are also a lot of breed rescues that have pure breed pups and adult or young adult dogs that need loving and forever homes.... you can always look into that!
here are some adorable pug puppies available for adoption on petfinder.com
