Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

We picked Tahiti because it is less commerical.

IMO I think it also depends on how big of a night life lover you are. Tahiti looks like it is more for people that just want to relax and enjoy eachother and their surroundings, not go and party.

However, I think both are extremely beautiful and you cant go wrong with either one.

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

Tahiti - less commercial, more exotic and more expensive - but gorgeous. Over the water bungalows, unique experiences, 15 hour flight. Food is lots of seafood, but delicious however very expensive. You really don't want any less than 9 or 10 days.

Hawaii - more night life and activities, more commercial but you can certainally find pocksts that arent. Only 10 hour flight, lots of options for food and at a more reasonable cost (for food). Can be done in 6 or 7 days, depending on your timing.

If it were me... Tahiti.

ITA w/ dctead, especially about how many days you want to/can be on your HM.

Both are beautiful exotic places!

btw - FH and I are going to Tahiti...

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

We picked Hawaii b/c we felt there was less to do in Tahiti. We are more into activites and I think Hawaii has more to offer. However, if we were more into just going to the beach and spas, we would have picked Tahiti.

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

so tough!

the flights available for us to tahiti are more limited and there are more flghts available to hawaii. (using rewards miles). if we choose hawaii, we can spend longer there, 10-12 days. if we choose tahitii, we would only be able to spend 8 days because thats how the flights are scheduled. we would supplement with an extra 3 days in cali though.

what would you guys choose?

3 days in cali + 8 days in tahitii

or

12 days in hawaii?

i like to lounge and FH likes to be more active.

also, what islands would you choose in both locations and why?

thanks!!!!! i love hearing everyone's opinion!

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

I say Tahiti, Hawaii seems so commercial but I haven't been there, so I can't say first hand. We're seriously considering Tahiti, but we'd do a cruise around there so we'd have the added entertainment and cost effectiveness of a cruise. I've heard Tahiti is brutally expensive, especially the food so an all inclusive cruise would really help out with that, then we'd do a few days on land to get the full experience.

P.S. I never heard Tahiti has no electricity and nothing to do after 8 or 9 pm? If that is the case, I may have to rethink this, I don't want to be THAT relaxed, I'd go out of my mind!!

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

They do have electricity, although like any island, it probably could be somewhat 'spotty' but I have to agree that there isnt much to do there in the evening, late at night. My FH has been talking about going to the South Pacific since I met him, and he has done all kinds of research and he has warned me that there basically is really nothing to do there except eat, drink, relax and **** (if you know what I mean )

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

FH and I have been to Hawaii 2 times each already. So I really wanted to go to Tahiti for our HM. He wanted Hawaii. We were going on a 3-week HM. We were going to o compromise and do a week in Tahiti and 2 weeks in Hawaii. However, after researching where we wanted to stay in Tahiti, one week there would actually cost us more than 3 weeks in Hawaii!!

While FH and I love the beach and snorkeling and scuba and all that stuff, we do get bored easily, so it just seemed like Hawaii was a better fit for us.

We are going to Oahu, Kauai and Maui.

if your FH likes to be more active, I would choose Hawaii. Maui and Kauai seem to be the most popular. Kauai is very relaxing. Maui is the best of both worlds, relaxing and tons to do.

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

i just took a look at the hotels in hawaii and tahiti...i think i'm leaning towards tahiti. FH hasn't decided yet though.

i'm worried 8 days in tahiti won't be enough though. if we choose tahiti, i'd target 5 days in bora bora and 3 in moorea. is that too rushed? thoughts?

Re: Tahiti vs. Hawaii?

I was trying to decide between the two as well, and im def leaning towards hawaii now, Tahiti looks beautiful, but after doing some research it seemed like there wouldnt be much to do. i was afraid of getting bored there. Hawaii has tons of activities!!
