Re: I finally finished topping last night
Ok, where do I begin, I thought it was bit raw. Not that Iam shy sexually but some of that stuff was so hard to read. So degrading, peeing in her face, animal sex, the beatings, the mumification.I guess there are people out there who take spanking to another level. I do not think I could read another book like this. It was harsh. I felt so bad for poor franny,
the torture the degredation, its as if she would have accepted anything to get love
M is an evil man, look at all he went thru just to say he could, I guess he has control issues. I think he took Franny's life and whether accidental or not he deserved to lose his hands. He took a person's life, he should pay some how. His love for playing the piano and whipping and all that other stuff will be no more.
It was definitely an interesting read, it opened my eyes to a lot. Some of those words she used were way over my head, I needed a dictionary for some of the words. I would not recommend it. I stopped so many times, b.c I could not believe the things that was going on, just when you thought it could not get any worse it did.

I forgot about poor Ian, why was he even in the pix, I don't even think he should have been a character and Masie what purpose did she serve in her old house

Re: I finally finished topping last night
Shamma, I found the book VERy raw also and a bit over the top! Granted, of couse I found it riveting as well, but do you think that there are ordinary people that really are that freaky? I mean, its a good thing the 'dog thing' was at the end, or I might have bailed out altogether!! It did make me wonder about the author and her 'research' that's for sure! I felt bad for Franny in a way too, but it was almost nauseating, the feeling that I had when I read about this woman who had no self esteem or self respect. And Nora, to me , was just as much of an evil person as M was IMO! Ian also came off as this lame, easily manipulated victim as well, but it was hard for me to feel bad for him too. The only sympathetic character was probably Franny. Everyone else was pretty selfish and vile, I thought.

Re: I finally finished topping last night
I didn't like Nora at ALL! I don't think the author does either! All the references to her sort of shallow existence. And I sort of thought there was an effort to make her deeper by landing her w. M., in order to take vengeance for her sister's death - but it so quickly turned into her own pleasure and intrigue - so selfish! She was dressing to impress before M even laid a hand on her! And COMMENTING to herself that she knew she looked good - seems a little vain in light of the mission she claimed to have been setting out on. Seems to me Nora is a very 'me' person on all counts!

Re: I finally finished topping last night
I am so glad the dog part was to the end, b/c when he told what he did to Franny, I stopped reading. I guess there has to be people out there like that, how else could she have been so thorrough, he imagination, he experience.I really felt bad for Franny, she was so needy, oh my word, oh how she blamed herself.
I did not see Ian as evil at all, why did you say that, he was a pushover indeed. One topping was enough for a lifetime. You know the book is a hard read for me when I don't even share it with my hubby

Re: I finally finished topping last night
Nora was very into herself and I think that is why she suffered thru a lot of what she did at first, in the end she ended up liking it, but she felt a lot of guilt.

Re: I finally finished topping last night
I agree Shamma! It was hard for me to read.....Franny's character was very sad - it was hard to see someone constantly getting treated like $hit and not standing up for herself.Don't even get me started on M and Nora - ppl may very well live like that, but I don't necessarily want to read about it! And you're right about the author - how else would someone know such graphic detail on animal beastiality (sp?) gross!
I didn't see Ian as evil - I thought he was the one guilty when I read about the woodcarvings though
I also agree that Nora's character was very selfish and shallow - I personally could never get that close to someone who I thought murdered my sister - regardless of her 'research'. From day 1 when she met him at the coffee shop, it seemed to be all about her.

Re: I finally finished topping last night
Did I say Ian was evil? I meant Nora and M. Ian , I thought was just a lame-o, easily manipulated, kind of like a weakling. I didn't really feel sorry for him for succumbing to M's advances. The only sympathetic part was when he was framed for the murder. Also, don't forget ladies, that he lied to Nora about Franny. (Not that Nora was a prize herself)Welcome New Vendors
