On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
Just curious..how many of us are married to accountants or financial guys and we are the anal ones about money, saving and balancing the check book?? I am! I just can't understand it. For someone who went to school and majored in accounting and finance, I would think he would be all over investments, etc! I am the one that researches, reads the books on building your nest egg and maximizing savings! And I went to school for anthropology! Just wondering who else is in this boat......

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
Ha, ddunne, can I answer, even though I am not a guy? I studied and work in finance.I do a lot of research on things (i.e. vendors, etc). I am good at narrowing 100 things to 10 or 15, and then FH is good at helping pick the one or two. And usually I am good at doing research.
But I am terrible at acct balancing. Basically, I know what's in my acct roughly, like its around 3500 or so, but I won't know to the penny. My mom is the same way and she does all the check writing at home. I also pay all the utility bills and phone bill. But I am not 'a.n.a.l' enough to balance the acct. I can't do it. I have tried balancing my checkbook, and that didn't work...

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
My DH works in a bank but I am the financial guru of my family. But, I won't complain, I have fun doing it. My husband does not share my obsession with our finances. Recently, we closed many credit cards that we don't use and I had so much fun with the credit card company and how they scramble to keep your business. I mean, why does it take cancelation for them to offer you a good rate. We had one card was charging 14.9%, but when we went to cancel, they dropped it immediately to 9%!!! Outrageous!!!

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
To funny. I was the finance major, undergrad, and worked in the industry for 2.5 years until I switched. DH is in the finance business, Financial Planner. He takes care of the bills better than I do ... like Alina, I just can't be diligent about it! But he is a Finance guy too, so I guess it's more of a personal choice ... It's just not in me.

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
WOW im glad to see im not the only one that never balances an account to the penny. I never used to log down checks that I wrote out. I always new I had a nice amount and would never be worried about a check bouncing
worked fine for me!
Of course when it came to the BIG PURCHASES IN LIFE we had to get down to the dollars and cents!

We are both in the financial field and we both are looking at the investments, but he is horrible at a check book, that is why we keep them separate.

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
DH is a cpa and now in investment banking/ finance. He is a huge saver! I do rely on him to make most of the financial/investment decisions because he is better at that stuff. I really have very little interest. he is taking care of figuring out the mortage amount and rates and stuff like that.As far as banking and balancing accounts and paperwork/record keeping, I am much more anal. The big reason I kept my own checking account (I actualy have 2).

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
Patrick is a blue-collar, works-with-his-hands kind of guy who missed his calling finance.
He's in charge of all things financial in our home, but of course I'm not completely in the dark. I know where to look to find out anything I need to know, I just don't.

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
No you are not a freak! If you are than I am.... My FH is a CPA and accounting guru. He is incapable of saving...Not that he is cheap or anything. He is just too **** generous with buying things and spending on other people. I have to do all the savings for us. Scary!!! We just laid out a very strict budget, which will allow us to purchase a house in a year and we hopefully, two or three years from now, start a family. Cross your fingers!

Re: On the subject of $$ and checking accounts..
I think the root of the problem may be scale. If you are doing the financials for multi billion dollar firms, small variances like $10K are nothing. So keeping a family on a budget or tracking expenses is really nothing like doing it for a large firm.
