I wanted to share what happened tonight

We were in Smithhaven Macy's re-doing my registery. We kept hearing this woman yelling for her son. The sales people had talked to her. She had lost her son. She found his sneakers but not him. They called the store security. I must tell you that I was soooo impressed with the customers in the store. Everyone stopped and started searching the store for little 4 year old William. My heart was in my throat because of the shoe thing.

My brother was really into sleeping as a kid and used to climb out of the stroller to go to sleep under the racks so here I am with another bride turning over racks and tables. Customers were really searching everywhere for this little boy. My Mother then thought about my brother and said where is bedding from here. Sure enough William wanted a nap and was under a mess of pillows taking a nap!

Scary experience for sure. My eyes are even welling up thinking about the fear again! But the nice thing was how EVERYONE stopped what they were doing to look for little William!

Re: I wanted to share what happened tonight

I think I would have a heart attack if my son ever did that to me. But, since I did that to my Grandmother and Godmother as a child, I guess I can't be too suprised if Paul were to pull something like that (hiding under a clothing rack).

But, it is so nice to hear that store patrons were concerned about finding the little boy! God forbid it was a kidnapping, having more people searching sooner can make a HUGE difference in how the story ends.

Re: I wanted to share what happened tonight

I have a younger brother who took a 'walk' when he was about 2. So I know the panick of the search. Boy when you find them you want to hug them & strangle them all at once!!

I'm happy to hear people took action!!!

If it was my son I probably be a ball of mess on the floor!!!!

Re: I wanted to share what happened tonight

I was in Kohl's once and a mom lost her little girl- about 4 years old. To hear her scream the name was the most piercing sound I have ever heard. The store manager came over and I said 'Lock down the store right now'. Because you never know what is going on and if the store is in lock down if someone did take her they would not be able to leave. Thankfully she was in the dressing room trying on something she liked! But I always say 'If you turn your head for one minute, just one minute, make sure you have their hand'. It is so scary.
I am so glad the little boy was found.

Re: I wanted to share what happened tonight

Question??? How did little William get away in the first place? I'm sorry to be a downer but don't these Mother's watch t.v. and listen to the news??? How was her back turned away from her son for even a second?.

She was lucky..and thank god for all the concerned shoppers. Thanks for sharing the story it was a reality check for all of us I'm sure.

Wow that is one lucky Mom, I am glad the situation didn't turn out for the worse. You can not take your eyes off your child for one second!

Re: I wanted to share what happened tonight

It's very scary, but unfortunately it does happen! I was one of those kids! I used to climb under the rack and 'hide' and my mother would be ready to KILL me when I was found!!!! Then again, back then it wasn't like it is today. Sad and scary.

I'm glad this story had a happy ending!!!
