I don't understand...

Why tip for Maitre'd ranges from $3-$5 PER GUEST... What does their tip have to do with the number of guests we have...they aren't there to help my guests...
....what is the relevance of that tip estimation? I see it everywhere...
Anyone out there have another logical suggestion for tipping Maitre'd and Bridal attendant??
TIA!!

Re: I don't understand...

For the M'd it is because he or she is the one that makes sure everything runs smoothly...all the food is out at the same time..you cut the cake on schedule..those little things.

As for the BA it is because this person is with you from the time you get to your RH..get you drinks, food, help you fix you dress...etc

Re: I don't understand...

Don't get me wrong, I definately think they deserve a tip..I am just trying to make sense of how their tip is estimated.. and I don't see how the number of guests attending has relevance to it... I may be missing something...that's why I come to you ladies for guidance TIA!!

Re: I don't understand...

I think they base that # because it comes closest to a certain percent..like the wait staff gets anywhere from 18-20%

I have been told by some places that the Bridal attendant should get $50 but I think that is low for someone that will be almost like your personal asst. for the night

Re: I don't understand...

I don't know, but good question. I thought it was strange to come up with that formula. I guess with less guests, the more per person??? how does it even out?

Anyway... for BA...it was including in our 20% service charge. We only have to tip MD for the day of. Thankfully. Will most likely tip BA additional, just not as much since she gets a cut of the 20%,

Re: I don't understand...

ITA with this!!!!! If I have 150 guests or 180 guests...is he/she doing that much more work?

I wish it was just a suggested flat fee. But I agree that making it a suggested per guest charge is pretty silly. I'll be tipping on the lower end. I think a $600 TIP for one day's work is more than enough.
