Good wine store?

FH's birthday is on Thursday, and he recently became really interested in drinking wine! (much to my delight)

I'd like to get him a really nice bottle for his bday... any suggestions where to go? I'd prefer NOT to drive all the way out east to the wineries if I can avoid it!

ETA: Also, any suggestions on a type of wine? He doesn't like anything too fruity tasting or too sweet. He likes Merlot & Pinot Grigio a lot. Something like those maybe?

I know more about the sweet wines

hm id be interested in this as well..
i usually go to mab on merrick ave in east meadow..the one next to costco in westbury on old country road is also pretty good

There's a Stew Leonard's in Farmingdale. They have tons of different wines. I'm sure you could find something special for him there.

theres a good wine store in New hyde park in the pathmark/party city shopping parking lot and also coscto in westbury has a liquor store with a lot of wine choices and they are pretty good in price too

go to Pops in Island Park. The place is hugeeee ! My mom actually works there on the weekends. There are tons of people there to help you and they have many wines and liquors that other places dont carry. I think they have a website, check it out !! Also, if you go, be sure to get on their mailing list. They have sales where you can get 30% off !

You HAVE to go to the Village Wine Cellar in Bellerose - this is our wine store - its small, but they have great wines. Their website:

There is a Malbec they sell - Finca Flichman - our favorite. And reasonably priced. It's a good red, from Chile, I believe.
