Re: the devil wears prada?
Teri just read it and posted about it. She said it was similar to ND too, but she liked it more.

Re: the devil wears prada?
Erica - you'd probably love the Devil! I really enjoyed it - I gave it to my friend the other day and she can't put it down!

Re: the devil wears prada?
OK...so I read it this weekend...and I definitely didn't love it...I get so sick of these just out of school 'authors' who want to write a witty, humorous book (which I am all for), but also want to 'prove' their intelligence to us...
and while I thought that MOST of the characters were well developed (although I cannot believe that anyone is like Miranda...I have never worked in the fashion world...so it could be my ignorance) I thought the whole idea of her not wanting to turn into Miranda...was underdeveloped...
on to Good in Bed...

Re: the devil wears prada? Do not read if you haven't finished the book!
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THIS BOOK YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!wow! Everyone I know that's read it loves it!! I didn't get the feeling at all that she was trying to prove her intelligence to us.
I see your point about the ending, but I looked at Andrea's decision more as her not wanting to subscribe to the whole way of life - it wasn't worth it to her. I didn't really see it as her fear of necessarily turning into Miranda.
(Although I remember reading that one part at the end where Miranda made a comment to Andrea saying she reminded her of herself)
Unfortunately, I have first hand experience of people in the business world that are JUST like Miranda. It's sad but true. At the end of the day, if those people are successful in whatever business they're in, no one is likely to challenge them, so the attitiude, abuse, etc continues.....

Re: the devil wears prada? Do not read if you haven't finished the book!
I took it as...you put up with all the crap for 11 months...and you can't **** it up for one more? to get a recommendation to your dream job...and put it all behind you?and youre in paris...in the ritz!!! with all those great clothes!! granted lily neede her...but I thought that part of the sotry was a bit contrived...
teri...it could be that I am a little bitter...I interviewed with New Woman magazine right out of college...and after the FORTH interview...they gave the job to someone else...I was so happy the day I heard it went under!!

Re: the devil wears prada? Do not read if you haven't finished the book!
Yeah, I wondered how she what she would do considering it was so close to her end - but if she did S U C K it up and take the referral, then she'd be a sell-out, so to speak. This way, she comes out taking the high road and deciding it's not worth it to her....there's definitely a moral lesson there, but I didn't look at it like it was being forced on me.I wonder what others think about this book?
If I were you I'd be ****ed too about that job - FOUR interviews?! Ridiculous!!!

I just felt the beginning of the book was very in detail...I didn't see/feel the emotions that went through her when she decided to leave...I just didn't connect to AndyWelcome New Vendors
